John Prine passed away due to complications from COVID-19. He was 73 years old. Based in Chicago, Prine was an active musician from 1971, spinning blue collar tales with a country-folk flair. Prine may not have ever become a superstar in musical terms, but his peers viewed him as one of the greatest songwriters of his generation. For his work, Prine was nominated in 2018 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We here at Notinhalloffame.com would like to extend our condolences to the friends and family of John Prine.

The world of Baseball lost a legend today as it was announced that Al Kaline passed away today at the age of 85. The cause of death was not disclosed. The Outfielder debuted in 1953 as a teenager, and he would play a total of 22 seasons in the Majors, all of which were with the Detroit Tigers. Kaline would become a star quickly, going to the All-Star Game in 15 of his seasons, and finishing in the top ten in MVP voting nine times. Pro Football lost one of its greats as Bobby Mitchell passed away today at the age of 84. A star at the University of Illinois, Mitchell was chosen by the Cleveland Browns with their seventh round pick in 1958. Mitchell would share the backfield with the legendary Jim Brown, where he would play four seasons, totalling 3,759 Yards from Scrimmage with 32 Touchdowns. In 1962, the Washington Redskins were under pressure from the NFL, as they were not yet integrated, and they would trade for Mitchell. On the weekend of what was supposed to be NCAA’s Final Four, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced today their Class of 2020. As expected, the triumvirate of Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett have all been selected for Springfield. It was announced today that R&B/Soul/Pop legend, Bill Withers died last Monday at the age of 81 due to heart complications. Born in West Virginia, Withers moved to Los Angeles in 1967 seeking a career in music after a nine-year career in the military. He put out his first album in 1971, which included the hit, “Ain’t No Sunshine”. Later hits in the 1970s and early 1980s would include “Lean on Me”, “Use Me”, “Lovely Day” and “Just the Two of Us”. The announcement came today from SHOF Chairman, Nile Rodgers. The International Boxing Hall of Fame has announced that the Hall of Game weekend is officially cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It was scheduled for this June. Rather than simply announce a postponement, they announced that they will be honored at the 2021 induction ceremony. The official plaques will however be at display at the Hall starting in June.
