Jahri Evans was unique in that he did not play competitive football until he was in high school, and what a career he would have!
As much as football changes, there are some statistics that will always remain critical to the game.  One such stat is the Interception, which is one of the biggest game-changers regardless of era.  In the ’60s, Bobby Boyd was one of the masters of the pick.
Before the Dallas Cowboys truly became “America’s Team”, they had to establish themselves as a true force in the National Football League.  A big part of that emergence was their defense, of which Linebacker; Lee Roy Jordan played a key role.
Special Teams has a major struggle to get recognized in Canton, Ohio, but do we have a case with Devin Hester who with the reduction of kickoff returns in the NFL could be the last great returner ever?  Some have even said he is the best ever.

As one of the men who used to eagerly wait for the final undefeated team to lose every NFL season, Bob Kuechenberg was a staple on the fame Miami Dolphins O-Line.As part of the Dolphins' two consecutive Super Bowl champions, Kuechenberg actually enjoyed better individual seasons after.  Although he looked like a reject from the Longest Yard Prison Team (the original…
One of the early stars of the Green Bay Packers, Verne Lewellen, was an all-purpose Back who did it all for Green Bay.  The product of Nebraska (the state and the University) would be named to four straight First Team All-Pro squads (1926 to 1929) and was a large part of their three consecutive NFL Championships (1929 to 1931).
Very few players could be viewed as the total athletic package. Neil Smith may have been one of those rare exceptions as scouts felt with his skills there was little he couldn’t do on the football field.  Those scouts would be right.Neil Smith was a multi-faceted Defensive End who was equally adept at stuffing the run as defending against the…
Drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1943, Al Wistert would play his entire nine-year career in Eastern Pennsylvania.  Playing at Tackle (on both sides of the ball), the former Michigan Wolverine would be named a First Team All-Pro by the Associated Press four years in a row (1944-47).  Wistert would be named to the Pro Bowl in 1950 and was…
Although they only won one NFL Championship in the late ’50s and early ’60s, the New York Giants were a loaded team.  Jimmy Patton was a star Safety on this squad, but his exploits have largely been forgotten. When the Giants won the 1956 NFL Championship, Jimmy Patton was really coming to his own.  He progressively got better and in 1958…
One of the main roles of an Offensive Lineman is to create holes for Running Backs.  The Cleveland Browns of the 1960s had some of the best runners and Dick Schafrath was a big reason that they found as much opportunity to run as they did.
Offensive linemen may be the most respected in football, but they are from the most famous.  One of the few exceptions to that rule was the famed “Hogs” who patrolled the front line of the Washington Redskins in the 1980’s.
When you think of great San Francisco quarterbacks you would automatically think of Joe Montana and Steve Young.  Prior to them, there was a very good one named John Brodie who put up great numbers without the supporting cast that Montana and Young had.John Brodie was one of the game's early gunslingers and most of the time he had to…
The all-time leader in Receiving, Receiving Yards, and Receiving Touchdowns in the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise, Hines Ward brings the accumulative statistical resume that you would expect from a Wide Receiver in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Ward amassed over 12,000 Yards Receiving, an even 1,000 Receptions, and most importantly was a large part of the Pittsburgh…
With the 12th Pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens drafted a beast in the name of Haloti Ngata to stuff up the middle.  Ngata was a starter immediately and from 2009 to 2013 was named to the Pro Bowl and he was a First Team All Pro in both 2010 and 2011.  An incredible fit for the…
There have been many great defensive stars for the Philadelphia Eagles through the years.  Perhaps one of their quickest was Eric Allen, who was a constant threat to intercept any football thrown in his vicinity.Eric Allen was an impact player almost immediately in the NFL.  In his first eight years as a professional, Allen was named to the Pro Bowl…
In this era of sports specialization, it is hard to imagine that football players used to change positions regularly.  Pete Retzlaff played various offensive positions, but he could always be counted on to catch the ball.
You would think that the All-Time Leader in NFL receptions would have been at least been a finalist for the Hall of Fame.  Of course, Billy Howton was the all-time leader when he retired in 1963.  He has dropped considerably since then.Billy Howton was one of the top receivers for the Green Bay Packers throughout the 1950s.  He was a…
Dwight Freeney was one of the best players to come out of the University of Syracuse and he wasted no time after being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the first round (11th Overall) showcasing that he was an excellent pass rusher as he would lead the National Football League in Tackles for Loss and Forced Fumbles as a rookie, which…
Richmond Webb proved his merit immediately as the 9th overall Draft Pick in 1990 as the Left Tackle was a Pro Bowl, All-Rookie Selection, and UPI even went as far as naming him the Rookie of the Year.  That year was no flash in the pan as Webb would go on to be named to six more Pro Bowls (all…
