Professional wrestling lost one of the great ones as Blackjack Lanza died today.  He was 86 years old. Lanza began his career in 1961, and while he did wrestle all around the world, it was with the American Wrestling Association where he performed the most.  His biggest success would be with Blackjack Mulligan, where under the management of Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, he won their Tag Team Titles, and they would also win the tag titles in the then-named WWWF.   Lanza wrestled until 1983, and two years later would go to work for the WWF as an agent/producer, a role he held…

The Baseball Hall of Fame has announced the results of the 10-man ballots from both the Early Baseball Era Committee and Golden Days Era Committee for the Class of 2022, and it is a loaded group with six new names inducted. Bud Fowler and Buck O’Neill were chosen by the Early Baseball Era Committee and Jim Kaat, Minnie Minoso, Tony Oliva and Gil Hodges were selected by the Golden Days Era Committee. Pro Football lost a great one today as Hall of Fame Defensive End, Claude Humphrey, passed away.  He was 77 years old. A First Round Pick from Tennessee State in 1968 by the Atlanta Falcons, Humphrey won the Defensive Rookie of the Year and would be named to six Pro Bowls.  A two-time First Team All-Pro, Humphrey played for Atlanta until 1978, joining the Philadelphia Eagles for three seasons before he retired in 1981.  He had 130.0 Sacks over his career. Humphrey was inducted into Canton in 2014 as a senior candidate, and he is also a member of the Atlanta Falcons Ring…

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced four new groups who will be honored by the Canton-based institution.  The four new categories are Assistant Coaches, Athletic Trainers, Equipment Managers and Public Relations.  All winners will receive Awards of Excellence and their names will be displayed in a designated area starting in 2022. There will be five members of the inaugural class for each group. Committees have already been announced for each group. The Black College Football Hall of Fame announced 29 Finalists for the Class of 2022.  They will announce the Class on December 28. The Finalists were chosen from 200 nominees by an 11-member committee. The Player Finalists are: Joe Adams: Quarterback, Tennessee State, 1977-80. Antoine Bethea: Defensive Back, Howard, 2002-05. We have updated our Baseball futures, opening the 2025 section of all the new players who will be eligible for Cooperstown that year. Those former players are: Adam Jones:  Jones played for Baltimore for the majority of his career, and he was a five-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove winner and one-time Silver Slugger.  He had 1,939 Hits and 282 Home Runs.
