Not in Hall of Fame News

On last night’s UFC card, it was announced that Daniel Cormier will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022. Coming up the MMA ranks as the Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, Miocic made his UFC debut in 2013, defeating Frank Mir.  He dropped weight to compete in the Light Heavyweight Division, and challenged Jon Jones for the Title at UFC 182, though fell via unanimous decision.   Injuries and a Jones doping violation postponed a rematch, and Cormier would go on to win the vacant title (Jones was stripped of the belt) by beating Anthony Johnson.  After…
We will argue that is days like these that created this website. Over a decade ago, constant debates of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame led us to create our own list of who we thought that should be considered.  Since we put out our first list in 2009, we can state unequivocally that our criticism of the Rock Hall has shrunk, but it remains the most divisive Hall-based institution and their inconsistent schedule remains an issue, as do the way they arbitrarily induct acts who were not voted in through vague categories. No matter. Here are the newest members…

RIP: Naomi Judd

A day before she was to be inducted with her daughter, Wynonna, to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Naomi Judd passed away.  While details remain vague, the official statement was that she died from mental illness, which she has been dealing with for a long time.  The Judds were going to do their “Final Tour” on September 30 on a ten-city tour. First performing as a pair in the early 80s, they broke out quickly, charting their first number one Country Album in 1984, and putting out six albums overall, the first three going number one.  They would have 14 number ones,…
Yes, we know that this is taking a while! As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists out and we always consistently look to update them when we can and based on necessity.  As such, we are very happy to present our post-2021 revision of our top 50 Baltimore Orioles. As for all of our top 50 players in baseball we look at the following:  1.  Advanced Statistics. 2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the American League.  3.  Playoff accomplishments. 4.  Their…
We can’t say that we are surprised. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will soon be announcing the newest members to their Cleveland-based institution, and Dolly Parton, who was nominated, late in the process respectively asked herself to be removed from consideration.  Realistically, when she made that request to the voters, many of the ballot were already in, or on its way, so whether that had any impact on the tally is suspect, but it did create a quandary of what the Rock Hall would do if she was chosen.  In an interview with NPR’s Morning Edition, she was asked by…
Sometimes, shame works. Less than a month ago, Dave Stewart was asked on Twitter by a fan when the Oakland Athletics planned to follow through on his retirement.  His response shocked A’s fans and Baseball alike: I have no idea what the A’s are doing. At this point they can just retire the number with no celebration as far as I’m concerned. Come to the park and it will be on display with the other retired numbers. If you find out something before I do, please let me know?” Oakland had announced in 2019 that the team would retire Stewart’s number…

Last year, Notinhalloffame.com awarded the first ever NBA NIHOF Regular Season Cup, and for those wondering what this entails, let us give you the details. With every single regular season game, we anointed the best five players in the game with descending points, 5-4-3-2-1.  412 players received at least one point, with 60 cracking at least 100.   The top players for the NBA NIHOF Cup are not always the best in the league, as injuries keep players out of games, and a premium on staying healthy can help pile up points.  It also does not hurt to be a top player on…
There is a major change going forward with the Baseball Hall of Fame in regards to their Era Committees. Eras have been reduced to two, the Contemporary Baseball Era, consisting of the period from 1980 to present day, and the Classic Baseball Era, covering the period before 1980.  The Contemporary Baseball Era will be split in two separate ballots, one for players and one for managers, executives and umpires. These Era Committees will rotate annually, with each ballot consisting of eight candidates.  The Contemporary Baseball Players will be up first. As always, we will be paying attention!

RIP: Guy Lafleur

Days after we lost one of the greatest Right Wings in Hockey, another one was taken from us. Guy Lafleur, one of the best players to ever grace the ice, passed away at the age of 70.  While it was not announced how he died, he had contracted lung cancer two years ago. From Quebec, Lafleur was the number one pick in the 1971 Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, and he was able to stay in his home province, and add to the laundry list of superstars that Montreal boasted.  Lafleur helped the Habs win the Cup in 1973, but it was…
