RIP: Tom Heinsohn

The city of Boston lost a legend today as Tom Heinsohn, whose association with the Celtics lasted over 60 years, passed away at the age of 86. Debuting for the Celtics in 1956, Heinsohn played at Power Forward for nine seasons, going to six All-Star Games and averaging 18.6 Points and 8.8 Rebounds per Game. Heinsohn was also named the Rookie of the Year, was a four-time All-NBA Selection and helped lead the Celtics to eight Championships. One of our pet projects, the Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the Finalists for the Class of 2020, which will be the 6th full class.  The Finalists were decided by all of you, after being pared down from other 500 Preliminary Nominees, to a group of Semi-Finalists. The National Toy Hall of Fame has announced the Class of 2020, inducting Baby Nancy, Chalk and Jenga.   Chosen by a panel of experts, these three toys beat out the other nine Finalists, Bingo, Breyer Horses, Lite-Brote, Masters of the Universe, My Little Pony, Risk, Sorry!, Tamagotchi and Yahtzee. 2020 took another star football player as former Green Bay Packers Cornerback, Herb Adderley, passed away at the age of 81. A Halfback at Michigan State, Adderley was taken by Green Bay with the 12thOverall Pick in the 1961 Draft.  With Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor in tow, Packers Head Coach, Vince Lombardi, moved Adderley to Cornerback late in his rookie season.  It turned out to be one of the best position switches in athletic history. The Black College Hall of Fame has announced the 25 Finalists for the Class of 2020, which includes 22 former players and three coaches. This group was selected from a field over 150 candidates by an 11-member Selection Committee. Players: Joe “747” Adams, Quarterback, Tennessee State, 1977-80: Adams threw for 8,653 Yards for the Tigers and would play three years in the Canadian Football League for Saskatchewan, Toronto and Ottawa. Eventually, we are going to get to that of the Division I schools, and conferences.  As such, it is news that San Jose State has announced their Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2020. RIP: Fred Dean

California Football lost a great one today, as former San Diego Charger and San Francisco 49er, Fred Dean, passed away due to complications from COVID-19.  He was 68 years old. A standout at Louisiana Tech, Dean was a Second Round pick by the Chargers in 1975.  Dean, who played Linebacker at college, was moved to Defensive End by San Diego, where he was an immediate starter.  He went to his first Pro Bowl in 1979, the year after he had 15.5 “unofficial” Sacks.  An elite pass-rusher, Dean was a Pro Bowler again in 1980, this time earning a First Team All-Pro Selection.
