The Country Music Hall of Fame has announced the Country Music Hall of Fame Class of 2020, which will include one Veteran Era Artist, Hank Williams Jr., one Modern Era Artist, Marty Stuart, and one Songwriter, Dean Dillon. COVID-19 strikes again, as the Hockey Hall of Fame has postponed the Hockey Hall of Fame Ceremony to celebrate the Class of 2020. Originally scheduled for November 16 in Toronto, the Class consists of Jarome Iginla, Marian Hossa, Doug Wilson, Kevin Lowe, Kim St. Pierre and Ken Holland. Hockey Hall of Fame chairman (and Hall of Famer himself), Lanny McDonald said that there would be no virtual ceremony, and that the most likely scenario would be postpone the ceremony to November of 2021, either by waiving the 2021 election or combining the 2020 and 2021 classes. It is a sad day for the wrestling world as James Harris, who wrestled professionally for years as Kamala “The Ugandan Headhunter” passed away. He was 70 years old. Born in Sentanobia, Mississippi in 1950, James Harris did not begin wrestling until 1978. At 6’ 7” and well over 350 pounds, Harris was an imposing sight, but he was not a great performer. This wasn’t the news we were hoping for. The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced their process going forward for Coaches, Contributors and Seniors Finalists for the next four years (2021-24), and if you are a worthy Senior Candidate, the road to Canton seems a lot narrower. Prior to the 2020 selection process, Coaches and Contributors were in the same category as modern players. This system did not guarantee that at least one Coach and/or Contributor would be chosen in a given year. The National College Baseball Hall of Fame has announced the Class of 2020. Die to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony will be held virtually later this month. The new inductees are: Doug Ault, Panola Junior College & Texas Tech, 1969-72, First Base & Pitcher: Ault was a two-time NJCAA All-American, and he was the MVP of the 1969 NJCAA World Series where he recorded three wins on the mound and batted .318. Our apologies, as we should have discussed this earlier. Dominican Shortstop, Jose Reyes, has announced his official retirement from baseball. Although, he last played in the Majors in 2018, he has not yet retired publicly. Playing most of his career with the New York Mets, Reyes would be named to four All-Star Games, was a Silver Slugger (2006), and won the Batting Title in 2011. Reyes would exhibit blistering speed, which he showcased by leading the NL in Tripled four times and Stolen Bases three times. It was announced today that British wrestling legend, Mark “Rollerball” Rocco, passed away at the age of 69. Born Mark Hussey in 1951, Rocco is believed to have made his pro wrestling debut in 1970, and he competed mostly in the United Kingdom through the decade. Rocco, who was a lighter-weight competitor in Britain, was contacted by New Japan Pro Wrestling to wrestle for them. Rocco was packaged as “Black Tiger”, a character designed to feud with the original Tiger Mask (Satoru Sayama), and he would win the WWF Junior Heavyweight Title. One of the most colorful figures in the history of hockey has passed away, as Eddie Shack died this morning at the age of 83 following a battle with throat cancer. From Sudbury, Ontario, Shack broke in with the New York Rangers in 1958, but he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1960, where he became one of the most popular players in the city. A huge name has been added to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2021, as David Stern, the former NBA Commissioner will be inducted posthumously. He died on January 1, 2020 of natural causes. Stern spearheaded the formation of the WNBA, and without his vision the league likely would not have existed. He pushed the promotion of the league, by using the NBA’s resources, including their participation in annual NBA All-Star Game.
