RIP: Terry Funk

One of the greatest professional wrestlers of all-time, Terry Funk, has passed away. The son of Dory Funk, and younger brother of Dory Funk Jr., Terry Funk first began wrestling in 1965, and would compete in every significant wrestling promotion that mattered. Funk gave off the persona of a crazed wildman, but the Texan was also an accomplished mat technician, who could adapt to any style. Winning the NWA World Heavyweight Title in 1975, Funk was also very successful in Japan, winning multiple titles and tournaments with his brother. Winning titles all across the United States, Funk pioneered what would…
The 2023 Pro Football Season will begin shorty, but a major step in the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame process occurred today with the announcement of Randy Gradishar, Steve McMichael and Art Powell as this year’s Finalists. They join Buddy Parker, who advanced days ago as the Coaches/Contributor Finalist. Randy Gradishar: Linebacker, DEN 1974-83. Ranked #2 on Notinhalloffame.com. This was a long time coming for Gradishar, who was twice a Modern Era Finalist (2003 & 2008), and was a Senior Finalist in the 2020 Centennial Class. Gradishar was the 1978 Defensive Player of the Year and would collect seven…
It is with great pleasure that we continue the third annual Notinhalloffame MLB Regular Season Cup, and let us explain how this works: With every single regular season game, we anointed the best five players in the game with descending points, 5-4-3-2-1. We knew the following: -       The top players for the MLB NIHOF Cup are not always the best in the league, as injuries keep players out of games, and a premium on staying healthy can help pile up points. It also does not hurt to be a top player on an average or mediocre team, as they can…
Maxie Baughan, who was named as one of the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame Senior Finalists, passed away at the age of 85. An All-American at Georgia Tech, Baughan was Philadelphia’s Second Round Pick in 1960. As a rookie, Baughan was a starting Linebacker for the Eagles 1960 NFL Championship Team. He was named to five Pro Bowls with Philadelphia, including a First Team All-Pro in 1964. As the Eagles declined, Baughan sought greener pastures, and was traded to the Los Angeles Rams, where he played from 1966 to 1970 collecting four more Pro Bowls to give him nine…
Here we are! Again!! If you have been following our Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project, you know that we have asked the rhetorical question…what if the PFHOF began in January of 1946? After soliciting and obtaining a passionate group of football fans and historians, we sent out a ballot for a Preliminary Vote, which we asked each voter to give us 25 names as their semi-finalists, and 5 in the Senior Pool. Following that, we asked the group to vote for their 15 Finalists in the Modern Era, and 3 in the Senior Category. The final stage was…
We are in the 2023 National Football League pre-season, and as always it coincides with the Pro Football Hall of Fame announcements of their Senior and Coach/Contributor Finalist. Today, the latter was announced, and it was former Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach, Buddy Parker. Parker was Detroit’s Head Coach from 1951 to 1955, where he led them to two NFL Championships. He was also Pittsburgh’s Head Coach from 1957 to 1964 and had an overall record of 104-75-9. This does not mean that Parker is a slam dunk for induction, as he will be put forth towards the…
Regular visitors of Notinhalloffame.com know that we are slowly working on the top 50 of every major team in the NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB. Once that is done, we intend to look at how each team honor their past players, coaches and executives. As such, it is important to us that the Arizona Diamondbacks have announced that Randy Johnson and Luis Gonzalez will be charter members of their franchise Hall of Fame. An expansion team in 1998, the Diamondbacks shocked the world of sports when they defeated the powerful New York Yankees. Johnson was the co-World Series MVP (along…

1947 SEMI-FINAL RESULTS: Thank you for all of you who have participated in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project, and if you are unaware of what that is, simply, we acted as if the PFHOF had their first class in January of 1946? We have completed the first year, where a Preliminary, Semi-Final and Final vote for the 1946 Class, which inducted Fritz Pollard, George Halas, Curly Lambeau, Jim Thorpe and Red Grange into the “Modern Era”. Pudge Heffelfinger, was chosen as part of the Seniors Category. For “1947” a Preliminary Vote with 130 players whose playing career…

Once that is done, we intend to look at how each team honor their past players, coaches and executives. As such, it is important to us that the Phoenix Suns have announced that Shawn Marion and Amar’e Stoudemire will have their numbers retired and become members of their Ring of Honor. Marion joined the Suns as the 9th Overall Pick in 1999 after a good career at UNLV. The Forward went to four All-Star Games…
