The Rock and Roll Futures (257)

As we intend to make this website a constant work in process, we though it would be useful to discuss the future bands/artists who will become eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Many of these artists are still recording and/or performing and thus adding to their impending legacy. They will be in our future lists so please feel free to vote so that we can rank them accordingly when they become eligible.
The first ten years of this millennium has been kind to 3 Doors Down in many ways.   They have been a constant on the Billboard charts and have been one of the few Post Grunge bands who haven’t sounded watered down. At their core, they are decent Rock band who appealed to Pop, Alternative and Metal and did so without a perceived sell out factor.   They…
Boy Bands are not exactly Rock and Roll Hall of Fame material (or really any Hall of Fame). With that said, if any Boy Band ever gets into Cleveland (and we will shut down our site if it happens), it will have to be one that was a lot more successful than 98 Degrees.
In all reality, unless Tool gets in, there should be little reason to think that what is essentially a side project of the band (A Perfect Circle) has any discernable Hall of Fame chance. Alternative metal in some form should get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but the current plight of regular Metal acts makes it seem so much more difficult. Now, how…
Above & Beyond have been very successful in the genre Trance, so much so that they could be classified as one of the top five Trance bands in the 2000’s and 2010’s.  The question to be asked is this a genre that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will ever embrace, but if they don’t this is a group that has garnered a strong following…
Adam Green might be better known to some as one half of the Indie-Folk group, the Moldy Peaches, but upon the group’s breakup he has done very well for himself with more quirky folk solo albums, a respectable career in art and producing the occasional movie or two.  He isn’t likely to receive serious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame consideration, but he does have a…
There have some who have claimed that Alexisonfire is responsible for putting post hardcore music on the mainstream in Canada, and maybe they are right.  What should not be disputed by anyone was that this was a loud and fun band in concert and will hold a place in the Canadian music canon.
Exploding onto the scene late into her teen years, Alicia Keys proved she was no flash in the pan as her blend of Neo-Soul, sultriness, and diverse musical skills propelled her into multiple Billboard charts.  She was not like the other “divas” on the charts as it was quickly learned that she had a different skill set from anyone else who shared her “genre”.  Her longevity…
Alkaline Trio carved themselves a solid spot in the Punk world with a respectable catalogue in the Punk Revival World. With anti-establishment tunes and a Punk/Emo sound, the Alkaline Trio was able to get a fan base, but only a modest one. As we know, any band with only a modest fan base is a longshot for the Hall, and as much as we respect them,…
His biggest hit was called “Party Hard” and damned if that wasn’t he was all about. Andrew W.K. was a throwback to the partying Metal of the 80’s with a touch of Jackass representing the new millennium. He isn’t exactly known for much else, and unless that changes, he won’t be known as a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer either.
With a name like Anti-Flag you would expect to hear an anti-establishment Punk Band, and that is exactly what you get! They wear the American flag upside down and though they don’t seem to have much positive to say about anything, you never have to guess where they are coming from. A Punk band with decent ability, Anti-Flag may fly the Punk flag which the Hall…
Antony and the Johnsons are well acclaimed band that is really Antony Hegarty (and whomever he may be collaborating with at the time). Part Baroque, part Chamber and very much drag influenced, they certainly have a uniqueness factor and have actually done well in the United Kingdom (where Hegarty was born). However, you know the deal….unless you conquer the States, the Hall won’t look for you,…
Selling well over thirty million albums worldwide, Aqua may have been an International well known Bubblegum act but they have may have among the lowest Rock and Roll credibility and influence of anyone that we mention here. This is far from what belongs in Cleveland.
Following in the tracks of Oasis, U.K. band, Athlete would achieve some success in their native England in the mid-00’s, specifically with a number one album (Tourist).  While they never made a dent in America, Athlete’s experimental and diverse sound over the years certainly brought them acclaim, but as always, without American success, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rarely comes calling.
As of this writing Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but easily could be at some point (hopefully we remember to edit this when it happens).  Tom Morello (RATM) and Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) were mutually in Audioslave, who showed great potential were not around long enough to warrant any real consideration, though we suspect that Morello…
Avenged Sevenfold have gone through multiple ends of the Metal spectrum and gained a huge and devoted fan base.  They did have a bit of commercial breakthrough success, but with so many Metal pioneers who remain on the outside of the Hall looking in, is this really a serious challenge to enter the Hall when eligible?
This one should be interesting. There are a lot of people who would scoff at the idea of Avril Lavigne ever making the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  That criticism stems from her singing perceived lightweight material and as a pop singer (which is what she is despite attempts to categorize her as anything else) there is a desire to automatically label her as unworthy.
Do we really have to talk about these guys on our site? Oh wait….. this is our site, and no we don’t.
Adopting the stage name of Badly Drawn Boy, Damon Gough pushed Adult Alternative to the Experimental edge without becoming completely inaccessible. Critically loved and panned at the same time, Bad Drawn Boy has been a popular Indie staple in England for a decade, but is this even close to a Hall of Fame equation?
No Saved by the Bell fans, this is not about the High School that Zack Morris went to.  Bayside carved themselves a solid run in the Punk world, especially in their native New York.  Likely not a strong contender for the Hall of Fame, this is one of those bands that probably could not care less.
A darling of the respected BritPop bands, Scotland’s Beta Band was fairly far from being one themselves. Dubbed “folktronica” due to their ability to merge Folk with Electronic elements, it is a safe assumption to state that the Beta Band had no real equal during their time. With that said, their uniqueness has yet to be proven as influential; which it what the Rock and Roll…
