Not in Hall of Fame News

1978 Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project Class. Here we are!  Again!! If you have been following our Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project, you know we have asked the rhetorical question: What if the PFHOF began in January 1946? After soliciting and obtaining a passionate group of football fans and historians, we sent out a ballot for a Preliminary Vote, in which we asked each voter to give us 25 names as their semi-finalists and 5 in the Senior Pool. We then asked the group to vote for their 15 Finalists in the Modern Era and 3…
Regular visitors of Notinhalloffame.com know that we are slowly working on the top 50 of every major team in the NHL, NBA, NFL, and MLB. Once that is done, we will examine how each team honors its past players, coaches, and executives. As such, it is important to us that the Tampa Bay Rays will be inducting Evan Longoria into their franchise Hall of Fame.  The event will take place next year when the club returns to Tropicana Field.  Longoria is arguably the best player in franchise history, playing there from 2008 to 2017.  The Third Baseman was the 2008…
It is with great pleasure that we have brought back the Notinhalloffame MLB Regular Cup, and let us explain how this works: For every regular-season game, we anointed the best five players with descending points, 5-4-3-2-1.  We know the following: The top players for the MLB NIHOF Cup are not always the best in the league, as injuries keep players out of games, and a premium on staying healthy can help pile up points. It also does not hurt to be a top player on an average or mediocre team, as they can amass Cup points more easily than elite…
1978 SEMI-FINAL RESULTS: Thank you for your participation in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project. If you are unaware of what that is, we acted like the PFHOF had its first class in January 1946. We have completed the years up to 1977. For “1978,” a Preliminary Vote with nearly 100 players whose playing career ended by 1972. We are also following the structure in that players have 20 years of eligibility, and if they do not make it into the Hall, they are relegated to the Senior Pool. Each voter was asked to select 25 names from…
Regular visitors to Notinhalloffame.com are aware that we are gradually compiling the top 50 lists for every major team in the NHL, NBA, NFL, and MLB. Once that is done, we will examine how each team honors its past players, coaches, and executives. As such, it is important to us that the San Francisco 49ers have announced that former Tight End Brent Jones will become the 33rd member of their franchise Hall of Fame. Jones played 143 Games for the Niners (1987-97), where he recorded 417 Receptions for 5,195 Yards and 33 Touchdowns and went to four consecutive Pro Bowls…
The NASCAR Hall of Fame has announced the Class of 2026, which will include Kurt Busch and Harry Gant entering via the Modern Era Ballot, Ray Hendrick from the Pioneer Ballot, and Humpy Wheeler as the recipient of the Landmark Award. Busch enters the Hall in his first year of eligibility.  The 2004 NASCAR Cup Series Champion owns 34 wins on the circuit, including the 2017 Daytona 500.  He also made history as the first racer to win a race with four manufacturers (Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, and Toyota), and was named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023. Gant,…

1978 PRELIMINARY RESULTS: Thank you to all who participated in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project. If you are still determining what that is, we acted like the PFHOF had its first class in January 1947. We have completed the first 30 years thus far. For “1978,” a Preliminary Vote with close to 100 players whose playing career ended by 1972. We are also following the structure in that players have 20 years of eligibility, and if they do not make it into the Hall, they are relegated to the Senior Pool. Each voter was asked to select…
For our website, this news is as big as it gets. In a shocking announcement, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred removed Pete Rose, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, and the rest of the banned 1919 Chicago White Sox players from the permanently ineligible list.  This would presumably mean that Rose and Jackson could find their way into Cooperstown one day. First, let’s recall how we arrived at this point. In 1921, Commissioner Kennesaw Mountain Landis banned Chick Gandil, Eddie Cicotte, Happy Felsh, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, Fred McMullin, Swede Risberg, Buck Weaver, and Lefty Williams for their alleged participation in throwing the 1919 World…
