Not in Hall of Fame News

This week Goal.com announce that from an online vote, that the greatest player in the history of France, Zinedine Zidane and the best player ever from Brazil (and arguably the world) Pele, has been selected to be a part of their first Hall of Fame class.  It should therefore be no shock that the most famous (and infamous player) from Soccer mad Argentina, has also been chosen. Diego Maradona was raised in a Buenos Aries ghetto and like virtually all South American youngsters he gravitated toward soccer.  Maradona would make his Senior cub debut with Argentinos Juniors, a few days…
Yesterday Goal.com announced that Zinedine Zidane was the first man chosen to their website’s Hall of Fame.  Each day this week, the largest Soccer site in the world will be announcing a member of their Class of 2014, all of which were voted on the public.  It should be a surprise to absolutely nobody that the Pele was announced as another member to the Hall. The accomplishments of Pele are staggering.  He is the only player in FIFA World Cup history to have won the championship three times (Brazil 1958, 1962 and 1970).  He is the leading scorer all time…
It is with much sadness that we learned that Orlando Thomas passed away after a battle with ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  Thomas played all seven of his National Football League seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, where he played Safety. Thomas, who was drafted in the Second Round from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette had a very impressive rookie season where he led the National Football League in Interceptions.  That was arguably his best season, but he would complete his career with 22 Interceptions and a 457 tackles. We would like to extend our condolences to the friends…
The largest soccer website in the world, Goal.com, is unleashing the first five men of their fan voted Hall of Fame.  Every day this week, the international web juggernaut will announce one of the men who will enter what we think will be a very respected Hall of Fame.  The first one chosen was former French superstar, Zinedene Zidane. Zidane was born in Marseille, France to Algerian immigrants in 1972 where he grew up poor.  Quickly showing skill for the game, he was scouted by Cannes and was signed by them and would make his professional debut for the team…
Tonight will be a special night for Guy Lapointe, the former Defenceman of the Montreal Canadians and current Scout for the Minnesota Wild.  At the Bell Center in Montreal, where the Canadians are hosting the Wild, Lapointe’s #5 will be officially hung to the rafters and retired. The number 5 has already been retired, when in 2006, Bernie “Boom Boom” Geoffrion saw that number retired in his honor, and this is not out of the ordinary in Montreal as the numbers 12 and 16 have also been retired twice; the 12 for both Dickie Moore and Yvon Cournoyer and the…
As we have mentioned before, we don’t have future plans to do a Notinhalloffame list for the Toy Hall of Fame, we can’t help but be intrigued by what they are doing and the memories they constantly invoke in us.  Today they have announced the three new toys that will be part of the Toy Hall of Fame and represent the Class of 2015.   The Rubik’s Cube, Bubbles, and Little Green Army Men have been named as the new toys that will be honored at the Hall of Fame. The 80’s fad of the Rubik’s Cube has been a finalist…
It was announced today that seven time All Star Alfonso Soriano has officially retired from Major League Baseball.  The 38 year old Dominican born player spent sixteen seasons in the Majors, predominantly with the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs. Soriano had a rough start to his professional career, electing to begin in Japan with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, only playing nine games and seeking an out to his distaste of the Japanese style of discipline and play.  After legal red tape was cut through, he would sign as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees, where in…
In 2010, the Black College Hall of Fame first came into fruition, honoring College Football players who plied their craft at historically Black Colleges in the United States.  Today, they have announced the class of 2015, which we thought it would be fun to take a look at. Richard Dent, Tennessee State: 1979-82.  The Defensive Tackle helped the Tigers get to the Division 1AA Semi Finals.  He would be a member of the 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bow Championship Team and enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.  Roger Brown, East Maryland Shore: 1956-59.  The Defensive Tackle would…

As such we are ready to present the former players who are eligible for Canton in 2017.  The players chosen have at least had one Pro Bowl appearance or an All Pro Selection. Recently, the National Baseball Hall of Fame announced this year’s Golden Era Ballot.  The Golden Era Committee replaced the Veteran’s Committee in 2010 and specifically looks at the players/contributors from 1947 to 1972.  This vote takes place every three years, and 75 percent is required of the 16 members to earn induction.  In 2011, the first year instituted, the late Ron Santo was chosen. We are going to take a quick look at the ten men chosen for the ballot, and list them in order of rank on our website: Gil Hodges, Ranked #15.  Received as high as 60.1 %…
