Not in Hall of Fame News

As you know, we are going to be launching in the summer of this year a look (and ranking) of the major North American Sports and their post career accolades.  This means retired numbers and respective Halls of Fame if applicable.  As such, we thought it was pertinent to mention that the New England Patriots Hall of Fame have announced three Finalists for their 2014 Class. The first is recent Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Bill Parcells.  Parcells, returned to Head Coaching after a two year hiatus in 1993 and in his second season took the Patriots to their first…
In what we thought was an interesting comment, Green Bay Packers President, Mark Murphy mentioned to WHBL Radio that he wanted to retire former Quarterback, Brett Favre’s #4 last fall.  According to Murphy, plans fell through when the High School team that Favre was coaching in Mississippi had a deep post season run, which kept him occupied.  Murphy also stated that he has a good relationship with the former “gunslinger” which is worth noting as his “will he or won’t he retire” caused turmoil for the Packers organization and his departure was not as clean as either side would have…
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame continues to be a source of controversy, but the second most important music related Hall of Fame in the United States continues along without any real issues.  We are referring to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which supports a musical genre that continues to grow in popularity.  The Country Music Hall is reflecting that success as this past Tuesday, its expansion has completed, and it is now double in size. Located in Downtown Nashville, the facility’s growth predominantly reflects many of the Country acts, and the evolution to today’s sound.  One such…
Paul Stanley isn’t done trashing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just yet.  The co-leader of KISS who was just inducted into the Cleveland based institution after a fifteen-year wait, took to Twitter to discuss his issues with the ceremony.  In a Tweet to Rolling Stone, Stanley quipped: “Our treatment at the RRHOF confirmed my worst suspicions.  Wenner and the rest are spineless weasels” He continued with a direct tweet to Jann Wenner, on how he felt like unwanted guests: “Jann Wenner & his RRHOF made sure to treat us as uninvited guests. No Passes. No schedule and on.…

RIP: Lou Hudson

Former St. Louis/Atlanta Hawks star Lou Hudson passed away at the age of 69.  Hudson was a collegiate star at the University of Minnesota and was the fourth pick of the St. Louis Hawks in 1966.  As a star with the Hawks, “Sweet” Lou Hudson made six consecutive All Star Games and had seven seasons in a row where he topped the 20 Points per Game mark.  Hudson’s number was retired by both the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Atlanta Hawks and is number 25 on our countdown of those to consider for the Basketball Hall of Fame.We here at…
So kids, what ten things did we learn from this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony? 1.  Gene Simmons can act humble if he really wants to, though we wonder how long it will be before they cash in on selling the tablecloth and other props from their table at the ceremony. 2.  Bruce Springsteen should have (and almost said as much) that his backing band should have been inducted with him years earlier. 3.  We also learned that based on the crowd reaction, the Hall knew full well that they could cash in twice by inducting them…
As you may know already, we are planning in the upcoming months to look at each of the North American franchises of the big four and the post career accolades that each team does.  As such, when one of them unveils a new sculpture, it is news to us!The Montreal Canadians will be the lone Canadian team in the NHL Playoffs, and perhaps they are looking for motivation with the unveiling of a wax statue of their most iconic player; Maurice “Rocket” Richard.  The statute is in the Bell Centre, where the Habs play and also where 10,000 square feet…
The Relief Pitcher in Baseball still struggles for respect amongst the traditionalists of the game as only five Relievers (Hoyt Wilhelm, Rollie Fingers, Bruce Sutter, Goose Gossage and Dennis Eckersley) have entered Cooperstown, but we expect that two more will enter in the upcoming years; at least we think that Major League Baseball thinks that will happen based on the revamping of their post season awards. The top reliever in the American League will win the Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year Award.  This is to honor the recently retired Rivera, who spent his entire career with the…
An interesting rumor has been floating around that Joan Jett will be performing with the former members of Nirvana at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony.  The speculation began when on the Foo Fighters’ Instagram page which showed a photo of Dave Grohl’s drumkit, Krist Novoseic’s bass, Pat Smear’s strat and what looks to be Joan Jett’s Melody Maker. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts have been past nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and her first band, the Runaways altered the perception of women in the Rock and Roll industry.  It was speculated by many…
In what can only be described as a major shock, WWE.COM has just reported that the Ultimate Warrior has passed away at the age of 54.  The cause of his death has not been announced, but as the man born as Jim Hellwig had a busy weekend with the WWE as he was officially inducted into their Hall of Fame on Saturday, and made an appearance on both Sunday’s Wrestlemania XXX and last night’s Monday Night Raw.  The Warrior looked healthy, and there was no visible evidence that he was sick in any capacity. The Ultimate Warrior first arrived in…
