Not in Hall of Fame News

We announced some time ago that we would not be doing a list for the World Golf Hall of Fame as their induction process was too lax for our liking.  Since that time, the Golf Hall announced that they would be revising their process, and today they announced their first induction class under the new system. This year’s headliner is Mark O’Meara, a 16 time winner on the PGA Tour.  O’Meara won two Majors, the 1998 British Open and 1998 Masters, the year he was named the 1998 PGA Player of the Year.  In total, he won 34 tournaments as…
As we embark upon into the depths of the Autumn season, we here at Notinhalloffame.com have a lot to prepare for.  In a few months, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will announce their latest classes and shortly after the Basketball Hall of Fame will follow suit.  Our lists are all up to date, but that never stops us from continued expansion on our multiple websites. We will be adding shortly additional players to the Hockey futures.  This will include those who will be eligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame soon, and…
A major apology is owed to all of you. As you have seen, we have been very busy with the creation of our new Fictitious Athlete and Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fames, and for that matter the continued expansion of our core site.  That being said, the new logo for Notinhalloffame.com was actually done months ago, not that long after we asked all of you who it should replace KISS on the banner. That informal questionnaire did not exactly result in any one artist who was the runaway winner.  In fact, it would be accurate to say that…
This is one of the days that we look forward to every year at Notinhalloffame.com.  Today, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, announced their fifteen nominees for this year’s Class.  As always, we expect that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will generate controversy, which is what they do best.  The fifteen nominees in order of our rank are as follows: #2 Kraftwerk The Germans are back as a nominee for the third time, and again we ask if they care, or of even the fans care.  We appreciate how the Hall looks at the influential nature of…
Shortly after the Los Angeles Dodgers were eliminated in the Major League Baseball Playoffs, Starting Pitcher, Josh Beckett has announced that he is retiring at the age of 34.  Beckett last pitched on August 8th, and was placed back on the disabled list due to issues with his hip.  He told MLB.Com that coming back from this injury at this stage of his life was not something that he could see himself doing.  He will be having surgery on the torn labrum this May. Beckett may be another in the long line of Baseball players whose career ended sooner than…
It could be in the next hour, the next day or maybe in a week, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be announcing the 15 Candidates who will comprise this year’s Class of inductees.  In what has become an annual tradition, a competition has arisen between myself (The Committee Chairman, and regular contributors DDT, and Spheniscus as to who can correctly predict the most Nominees I will admit I was proud of my prognostic ability as I won the first go around (despite Fela Kuti being one of my predictions, which I am still hearing about!), however…
When a Hall of Famer sounds off about their respective Hall and those hoping to get inducted, it is always news to us. Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, Frank Robinson spoke on “Outside the Lines”, the popular ESPN program which was documenting the 40th Anniversary of Robinson becoming the first African-American Manager in the history of Major League Baseball.  When asked about his former teammate, Pete Rose and the Baseball Hall of Fame, Robinson did not sugar coat his opinion: “Nothing.  Lifetime ban means lifetime.  Pete Rose broke a sacred rule in baseball by gambling on baseball and gambling on…
Normally, we would not report on the ramblings of Eddie Vedder during a concert.  I think if we did, we would have to dedicate an entire section to what the half talent/half blowhard front man of Pearl Jam would be spouting, but we thought this was a little interesting. In a concert at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, in between his anti-war speeches to the audience, he talked about another great injustice in the world, that of the omission of Pete Rose from the Baseball Hall of Fame: “It may not be as important as stopping a war or…
We told you we would be quicker.  Last week we put up the Baseball players who will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2017.  We now have put up those who are eligible in 2018. Like 2017, the new crop of eligible players is an interesting group and again for reference to qualify for the Baseball Hall of Fame, a player has to have been in the Majors for at least ten seasons and been retired for five. The eligible players for 2018 are as follows: Adam Kennedy Andruw Jones Aubrey Huff Ben Sheets Brad Lidge Brad Penny…
It did not get a lot of publicity, but the Milwaukee Brewers have announced that they will be retiring the number 1 in honor of Bud Selig, the Commissioner of Major League Baseball. Selig may not be the most popular Commissioner in North American Sports history (though Roger Goodell is making him look awfully good these days), but this is not in the same vein as what the San Diego Padres did by renaming their Hall of Fame park after the soon to be retired Commissioner.  Selig was at one point a minority owner of the Milwaukee Braves, and when…
