Not in Hall of Fame News

It’s that time again! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has unveiled their 2019 Nominees, which has been bumped up to 19 from the traditional 15 that they usually put forth. As per years previous, we see some familiar nominations, some new faces and a very diverse group of musicians. The nominees are as follows: Pearl Jam:  Ranked #1 on Notinhalloffame.com.   No shock here, as everyone projected that this very influential band would be nominated on their first year of eligibility.  This might be as close to a lock as it gets in terms of induction. Kraftwerk:  Ranked #2…
The Poker Hall of Fame have announced that Todd Brunson and Carlos Mortensen will comprise the Class of 2016. If the last name of Brunson sounds familiar, you would be correct as Todd Brunson is the son of legendary player Doyle Brunson, thus marking the first time that a father and son entered the Poker Hall of Fame.  Todd Brunson actually did not learn the game from his famous father, won a bracelet at the 2005 World Series of Poker and has over $4 Million in winnings. The induction of Carlos Mortensen gives the Hall an International flavor.  Of part…
Bret Hart has never been shy to let his opinions be heard and he had some interesting things to say regarding the WWE Hall of Fame. Of course, that is news to us! In an interview with House Money Studios, Bret Hart, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006 cited that he was “embarrassed that there’s so many great wrestlers out there that have never been given their credit”.  He cited specifically Rick Rude, Demolition, The Rougeau Brothers and most specifically his younger brother, Owen Hart, who died in the ring in 1999. Bret is actually…
Sometime…eventually, we will finish our look at the Top 50 Players of all-time for each major franchise. Once that is completed, our next step is a look at how each organization honors their past players/executives.  As such, it is news to us that the Tampa Bay Lightning will be retiring the #26 of Martin St. Louis who recently retired from professional hockey. St. Louis played two uneventful seasons in Calgary before signing with Tampa as a Free Agent.  In 13 seasons as a Lightning, St. Louis scored 953 Points, won the Hart Trophy, The Art Ross, three Lady Byngs and…

Dan Boyle Retires

This week, 17 year NHL veteran Dan Boyle retired in San Jose, the home of six of his pro seasons.  The defenseman grinded out a long career after being undrafted out of Miami University.  Signing with the Florida Panthers, the native of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada would play 129 games for the South Florida team but a trade across the state to the Tampa Bay Lightning would see him turn around his career. Under the guidance of John Tortorella, Boyle would enjoy his first 50 Point season (2002-03) and was a significant part of the Lightning’s first (and to date, only)…
The Baseball Hall of Fame has officially debuted the “Today’s Game Ballot”, which focuses on players/managers/executives from 1986-2016.  This will now be on a four year rotation with Modern Baseball (1970-1987), Golden Days (1950-1969) and Early Baseball (1871-1949). The Today’s Game Ballot is designed to focus on more contemporary players, many of which have dropped off the ballot in recent years. 10 men have been chosen for this ballot: Harold Baines: Ranked #40 on Notinhalloffame.com.  Baines blasted 384 Home Runs and 1,628 RBIs over a career that was mostly spent as a Designated Hitter.  Baines is known mostly for his…

Pete Rose is trying another channel to get into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In a seven page letter to Cooperstown, Rose outline that the ban that was imposed him 27 years ago by then commissioner, Bart Giamatti was never designed to ban him from the Hall of Fame.  For those unaware, the Baseball Hall of Fame acts independently of MLB.  The year before Rose was to be eligible the Hall of Fame passed regulation that those who were banned from MLB were therefore banned from the Hall of Fame. It is definitely worth noting that current commissioner, Rob Manfred…
We have been expecting this day all week. Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves announced his retirement over his Instagram page.  This will conclude a productive 21 Year Career in which the big man Farragut Academy would cement a legacy as one of the most intense and defensive minded players of all time. Garnett came into the NBA as the first high school player in twenty years and while many were concerned that a player out of high school could not make the jump to the NBA, though Garnett quickly silenced those critics and opened the door for high schoolers…

This year the Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame will be inducting fictional characters from three categories, Athletes, Contributors and the Veteran’s Category, which focuses on fictional sports characters prior to 1970.  The 15 Athlete Finalists are:  Al Bundy (Ed O’Neill in Married…With Children), who once scored four touchdowns in a high school football…
