The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have announced that former Cornerback, Less Browne will be inducted into their franchise Hall of Fame. Playing his college ball at Colorado State, Browne would play for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats where he was a two-time CFL All-Star before joining the Blue Bombers in 1989.  He was only there for three seasons, but he was selected for two more CFL All-Star teams and helped Winnipeg win the 1990 Grey Cup. He would have 27 Interceptions for the team. Normally we don’t talk about retired numbers until it become official, but we will touch on this story as some more meat on the bone has been added. Following the moves of Kevin Durant to Brooklyn and Andre Iguodala to Memphis, the Golden State Warriors announced that sometime in the future that they would retire their numbers.  Both were vital to the recent championships for the franchise so it is not unexpected, though this announcement does seem early. It is the 25thanniversary of the creation of Conference USA and in recognition of this the athletic coalition has created a Hall of Fame. The first class consists (appropriately) of 25 people, 20 student-athletes, three coaches and two administrators. To qualify for the Hall, a candidate must meet the following criteria: Student-athletes must have played a minimum of two years.For coaches or administrators, the minimum requirement is five years of service. Student-athletes must have last played for the institution at least five years. We have another significant retirement to discuss in the National Football League as Detroit Lions, Free Safety, Glover Quin has decided to call it a career after 10 seasons. A 2009 fourth round pick from New Mexico, Quin played for the Houston Texans for four years before he joined the Lions in 2013.  He would be named to the Pro Bowl in 2014, the year he led the NFL in Interceptions with 7.  He would have 24 in total over his career.  We will be adding Quin to our 2024 football futures section in the upcoming months. The Semi-Finalists are: Alice Bowie: Cheech and Chong: Up in Smoke.   They would win a local battle of the bands and had a minor hit in the “real world” with “Earache My Eye”. Bleeding Gums Murphy: The Simpsons.  Murphy was a jazz icon in Springfield who once appeared on the Cosby Show as one of the many grandfathers of the Huxtable clan.  He passed away in the early 90’s. For the first time ever The Pro Football Hall of Fame will be issuing a gold jacket to a posthumous inductee as Pat Bowlen, the late owner of the Denver Broncos will have one given to his family. In the case of Bowlen, he was the first person to pass away after being chosen (February 2) but passed away (June 13) before the actual ceremony.  As such, the Hall stated that they were already in the process of creating his jacket and ring, though due to Bowlen being in late-stage Alzheimer’s, he was not scheduled to attend. Washington State University has announced the inductees for their 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame Class. The six-person class is: Rod Commons: Commons worked in administration at WSU from 1976 to 2007. Josephat Kapkory:  From Kenya, Kapkory would win multiple titles representing WSU in long distance running. Ryan Leaf: Leaf may have flamed out in the NFL in epic proportion but as a Cougar he took the team to the 1998 Rose Bowl and finished third in Heisman Trophy voting and he would throw for 7,433 Yards and 59 Touchdowns.   Stephanie Papke: Papke played on the WSU Women’s Volleyball team from 1994…
In a self-penned article to the Undefeated, Darren Collison has announced his retirement from the NBA at the age of 31. He cited his faith as a reason to leave and to help those less fortunate. Dee Dee Bridgewater:  Bridgewater has won Grammys and Tonys and her career has spanned over 40 years.
