RIP: Cliff Branch

It is a sad day in Raider Nation as Cliff Branch has passed away at the age of 71.  He was found dead in his hotel room and is believed to have died of natural causes. Branch played his college ball at the University of Colorado where he was also a track star.  The Oakland Raiders would select him in the fourth round of the 1972 Draft and that was the team he would play his entire 14-year career. Branch had his best seasons from 1974 to 1974 where he was named to the Pro Bowl each year with First Team All-Pro Selections…
We have seen a lot lately of Donovan McNabb and his plight for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, from Terrell Owens simply saying “Who?” when asked about McNabb and McNabb himself comparing his stats to Troy Aikman and saying that he is a Hall of Famer. McNabb’s candidacy has been much aligned by critics and fans and even on our site, he has not received a lot of support. He does, however, have a great fan for his potential Hall of Fame bust in his former coach Andy Reid, who had this to say: “Listen, I’m his biggest fan.…

RIP: Harley Race

It was announced today that Harley Race, former seven-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion of the World passed away today at the age of 76 after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Race began in career in the early 1960’s and he would first achieve significant success as a tag team with Larry Hennig in the American Wrestling Association where they would hold the AWA World Tag Team Championship three times.  Race sought a singles career and he would cut his teeth in the Midwest, impressing NWA promoters enough to put the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on him.  In what was considered an…
As we approach the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, we have been working on our future eligible section.  As football players don’t always retire after they played their last game (usually to see if they can land another job while sitting out as a free agent) we aren’t able to immediately add them.   With that being the case, we have added to our site, 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame eligible list. The people eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame whom we are featuring are: Alterraun Verner:  Verner would be named to the Pro Bowl…
As we approach the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, we have been working on our future eligible section.  As football players don’t always retire after they played their last game (usually to see if they can land another job while sitting out as a free agent) we aren’t able to immediately add them.   With that being the case, here are some new additions to the 2022 Pro Football Hall of Fame eligible list. Antonio Smith: Smith played on the Defensive Line where he was a 2011 Pro Bowler with the Houston Texans. Darrell Stuckey: Stuckey played at Safety…
It is a sad day in the world of the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins as it was announced that former Linebacker, Nick Buoniconti, passed away today at the age of 78. The undersized Linebacker was drafted in the 13thRound out of Notre Dame by the Boston Patriots in 1962, where he would be a five-time AFL All-Star for the Pats.  He would be traded to the Miami Dolphins in 1969 where he would anchor their “No-Name Defense” and help them win Super Bowl VII and VIII.  He would be named to two Pro Bowls as a Dolphin. Buoniconti would be…
Yes, we know that this is taking a while! As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  We have a new one to unveil today, that of the Atlanta Braves who first came into fruition as the Boston Red Stockings, a charter member of the National League.  After multiple name changes, they settled on the name of the Braves in the early 1910’s. The team would relocate to Milwaukee in 1953 and then to Atlanta in 1966.  Despite their longevity, they have only won three World Series (1914, 1957 & 1995).…
Derek Jeter is eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020 and barring voters forgetting to submit their ballots, the induction of Jeter is a sure thing.  It also looks like there will be two former Baseball Hall of Famers who won’t be in attendance. In an interview with Bleacher Report during the Hall of Fame weekend, Andre Dawson was asked if he would be in attendance for the 2020 ceremony.  He had this to say: "I sincerely doubt [that I will attend] at this point.  All indications are likely not. ... I can't speak for Tony. But I don't have a…
Generally speaking, this is the season for football retirements but we have a mid-season baseball retirement that is significant as New York Yankees Shortstop, Troy Tulowitzki has announced his retirement from Baseball. Debuting for the Colorado Rockies in 2006, “Tulo” would be the runner-up for the National League Rookie of the Year in 2007, the same season that he helped the Rockies reach their only World Series to date.  The Shortstop would quickly ascend to the top of Colorado hitters and from 2009 to 2011 he would finish in the top ten in MVP voting and was twice named a Silver…
A bias against the New England Patriots by the Pro Football Hall of Fame?   According to Rodney Harrison, that is what is transpiring. In a conversation with the Boston Globe, he had the following to say: “It’s just unfortunate.  It’s almost a form of discrimination.  People don’t want to elevate us, or recognize or acknowledge how great we are because they’re such haters.  Everywhere I go, people hate on the Patriots.  So we don’t get credit.  All I hear is Tom and Bill.  But that’s such lazy analysis… …I’m like, Ty Law was the greatest defensive back I’ve ever played with.  Richard Seymour, Willie McGinest, Troy…
