Never change Pete Rose!

We don’t think that we need to tell you that Pete Rose is one of our favorite people to talk about, mostly because he was banned from baseball and what was once a surefire first ballot Hall of Famer became a pariah who the Baseball Hall of Fame removed from the ballot completely.

Rose is constantly asked about the Baseball Hall of Fame and in a recent interview with the Brian Kilmeade Show he sounded off on Johnny Bench, his former teammate and Catcher with the Cincinnati Reds.  Bench has been vocal that he believes that Rose should not be allowed in the Baseball Hall of Fame due to betting on the game.

Rose had the following to say:

“It don’t bother me but you know Johnny Bench is one guy who should have tanked God that I was born because he would have never made the Hall of Fame if I wasn’t born…Because I’m the guy he knocked in a thousand times.  You got guys in front of you guys right behind you and you got to be responsible for everybody else involved”.

We don’t think that Rose actually believes that as he would go on to say that he would always say that “Bench was the greatest Catcher that ever lived” so there is certainly some contradictory statements here but while he said there was not animosity between the two it is hard to see otherwise.

He would continue:

“I would think if he’s a Cincinnati fan and he cares about the city of Cincinnati that he would probably want me in the Hall of Fame.”

Like we said, never change Pete Rose!

There are a but a few sporting events that have such a massive following in the western world as the Baseball World Series. Just like the NBA is to basketball and the NFL to football, Major League Baseball has tremendous appeal not only in The United States of America but also in countries such as Canada and Japan.

The University of North Texas has announced their athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019, which comprises of five former athletes and a coach.

The inductees will be:

Marcus Camper: Football.  At Wide ReceiverCamper was a two-time All-Southland Conference player and was instrumental in taking North Texas to the Division 1-AA Playoffs in 1987 and 1988.  He would record 1,939 Receiving Yards with 14 TDs.

Casey Fitzgerald: Football.  Fitzgerald is North Texas’ all-time leader in Reception (229) and is third all-time in Receiving Yards (2,533).  He had two 100 Reception Seasons (2007 & 2008).

Kelsey Hodges: Women’s Soccer.  Hodges was a three-time First Team All-Conference Selection and in 2013 she was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year.

Amber Jackson: Women’s Basketball.  Jackson, who played for North Texas from 2006 to 2009 is the school leader in Rebounds with 761.

Zack Orr: Football.  Orr was North Texas’ Defensive Captain and recorded 123 Tackles as a Senior in 2013. That year, he was the heart of a team that would win the Heart of Texas Bowl in a rout over UNLV.  He would not be drafted but he would sign with the Baltimore Ravens where he would play for three seasons capped with a Second Team All-Pro Selection in 2016.  Orr would be forced to retire after due to a congenital neck and spine condition.

J.W. St. Clair: Basketball, Baseball & Football Coach.  St. Clair coached Basketball, Baseball & Football at various times from 1915 to 1924 and he had a .734 winning percentage in Basketball and a .721 Winning Percentage in Football.

This group will be officially inducted on October 18-19 and will be honored at the Mean Green’s home game against Middle Tennessee.

We here at Notinhalloffame.com would like to congratulate the soon to be University of North Texas Athletic Hall of Famers.

Recently, former St. Louis Rams Wide Receiver Torry Holt was asked on the NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” about his Pro Football Hall of Fame credentials:

“Our resume speaks for itself. I played on a team with Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Orlando Pace, Isaac Bruce – the list goes on.  I think for me, I might’ve gotten a little overshadowed, but when you look at the production and you look at the work I was able to do, I was on a Hall of Fame level just as those guys were. And when I was playing with these dudes, I used to be like, ‘If I can raise my level up to these guys’ level, we’re going to be that much more dominant – we’ll all get in.’”

Warner, Faulk and Pace have already been inducted.  Bruce has been a Finalist for the last three years.

Statistically speaking, Torry Holt has the credentials with 13,382 Receiving Yards and 74 Touchdowns and he is also a seven-time Pro Bowl Selection with two Receiving Yards Titles.

Holt has yet to be named a Finalist as of yet, though has reached the Semi-Final stage five straight years,  At present, we have him ranked #11 on our Notinhalloffame.com Football list.
