Not in Hall of Fame News

Hopefully in a year’s time, we will be able to unveil our ranking of all four major North American sports franchise and how they retire numbers or have their own Hall of Fame.  Basically it will be a ranking of post career accolades.  As you can imagine, the New York Yankees are a strong contender to top that list, and it looks like they are going to add another three retired numbers sometime next season. Andy Pettitte will have his number 46 retired by the organization.  Pettitte played fifteen of his eighteen seasons in Baseball in Yankee pinstripes and would…
It is NBA All Star Game Weekend and with the sporting world tuned into the world of hoops it is the perfect time for them to announce the Finalists for the Basketball Hall of Fame. The Basketball Hall of Fame does not reflect only the Pro Game in the NBA but the International, College, and Women’s game.  There are ten North American Finalists and two Women’s Finalists. This year’s finalists are: Dick Bavetta: The former NBA referee retired after the 2013/14 season after officiating 2,635 consecutive games, an iron man record for officials.  He was a referee for 27 NBA…
Another major retirement has taken place in the National Hockey League and in our estimation it has not received the press it should have. Evgeni Nabokov, who was just traded back to the San Jose Sharks, retired after fourteen seasons in the NHL, and after a return to San Jose, where he played for ten years and holds numerous goaltending records has decided to call it a career.  From the Kazakhstan part of the Soviet Union, Nabokov was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in 1994, but did not make his NHL debut until 2000 and would win the Calder…
The Canadian Music Hall of Fame (also known as the Juno Hall of Fame) has announced that the 2015 inductee will be Alanis Morissette. The Ottawa native first became nationally known in the early 1990’s as a dance-pop artist but it was her switch to a hybrid of Rock and Alternative that led to the creation of her smash album, Jagged Little Pill, an effort that generated hits like “You Oughta Know”, “Ironic”, “You Learn” and “Hand In My Pocket”.  It sold 33 million copies worldwide, won numerous awards and ushered in a new wave of female stars.  While she…

RIP: Ed Sabol

It is a sad day in the National Football League as the founder of NFL Films and Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Steve Sabol passed away in his home in Scottsdale, Arizona at the age of 98. Sabol, along with his son Steve transformed the way that we watch the National Football League once he won the right to chronicle the game in 1962, and his vision gave us innovations that are still very much in use today.  With a multi-camera attack, players with microphones and locker room access, Sabol created what was akin to a Hollywood production. NFL…
It was announced today on Monday Night Raw that a member of the legendary Anoi’a family will be entering this year’s WWE Hall of Fame Class.  That man is Rikishi, who had a long run under various personas in the WWE, and is the father of current WWE Tag Team Champions, The Usos, and the uncle of Roman Reigns.  Born Solafa Fatu, Rikishi first gained recognition on a national level in a tag team with his cousin, Samu, as the Samoan SWAT Team, a duo that would have success in both World Class and WCW.  The then named World Wrestling…
It appeared that this was going to be made official at some point in 2015, but this July 18th, Brett Favre will be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and later in the year, his name and number four will be placed on the hallowed wall in Lambeau Field.  It has not been announced when they will do the official ceremony at Lambeau, but Favre, on his website is looking forward to returning to the “Frozen Tundra” and a place that he reigned as king for sixteen years.  As a member of the Packers, Favre would throw…
It may not have received the ceremony it deserved outside of San Diego but former Pro Bowl Center, Nick Hardwick has decided to call it a career. The announcement came a couple of days ago, and a look at his career shows that Hardwick played 136 Games under the Quarterback for the San Diego Chargers and started every single one if them.  Hardwick, who was a 2006 Pro Bowl Selection was also the winner of the Ed Block Courage Award in 2008. While Hardwick is not really a viable candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, it is conceivable…
An interesting piece of news came afoot regarding Pete Rose and the Baseball Hall of Fame this week. The new Major League Baseball Commissioner, Rob Manfred, stated that he would be making a decision to potentially reinstate Rose to Baseball and pardon him from gambling on the sport has a lot of ears raised.  Rose has been banned for twenty-five years and throughout the Bud Selig era there was no discernable talk that he would be reinstated.  There is now a glimmer of hope that the Hit King of Baseball might make it to Cooperstown after all.  This news came…
Carlos Delgado may not have received the votes necessary to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, but he did receive a decent consolation prize, as he will be headlining the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Mary’s Ontario.  Delgado would play his first twelve seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays where he would make the American League All Star Team twice.  In 2003, he would lead the league in Runs Batted In and OPS and would finish second in MVP voting.  Accumulatively, Delgado would blast 336 Home Runs with a Slash Line of .282/.392/.556 and…
