One of our pet projects, the Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the Semi-Finalists for the Class of 2020, which will be the 6thfull class.
The Semi-Finalists were decided by all of you, after being pared down from other 500 Preliminary Nominees.
Whoever gets inducted this year, will join previous inductees:
The Fictitious Rock and Roll Semi-Finalists are: Spinal Tap, The Monkees, The Blues Brothers, Gorillaz, Tenacious D, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, Wyld Stallyns, Alvin and the Chipmunks, The Wonders, Bleeding Gums Murphy, Otis Day and the Nights and Stillwater.
This year’s Semi-Finalists are:
Alice Bowie (Cheech and Chong): From the minds of Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong first appeared in the comedy duo’s first film. They have been a Semi-Finalist twice before.
Andy Bernard (The Office): Bernard tried out for America’s Next Great A Capella Star, only to fail and become a viral YouTube star for his failure. This is his first time as a Semi-Finalist.
Apollonia (Falcon Crest): A surprise Semi-Finalist, Prince’s ex-girlfriend played a character with her same name. In the 80s nighttime soap, Apollonia was a cocktail waitress turned singer.
Arthur Ewing and his Musical Mice (Monty Python): Another surprise Semi-Finalist, the mice were hit by Ewing to illicit shrieks in musical form.
Barry Jive and the Uptown Five (High Fidelity): The Musical Moron Twins show off their snobbery of music in this cult classic. This is another first-time Semi-Finalist.
Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers (The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension): What couldn’t these renaissance men do? This is their third time reaching the Semi-Finals.
Conner4Real (PopStar: Never Stop Never Stopping): Formerly of the Style Boyz, Conner4Real becomes a Semi-Finalist in his first year on the ballot.
Dewey Cox (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story): A former three-time Semi-Finalist, Cox resembled Johnny Cash.
Don Music (Sesame Street): A first time Semi-Finalist, Don Music will never get it! Never!
Ellen Aim (Streets of Fire): Aim is yet another first-time Semi-Finalist, and while she is quite the singer, her kidnapping is the catalyst of the film.
Figrin D’An and the Modal Nodes (Star Wars): The house band at the Mos Eisley Cantina was a finalist last year. No band can bounce back after seeing a fatality better than this one.
Jem and the Holograms (Jem and the Holograms): They played pop music and had a huge hologram machine. Enough said. They were a finalist last year.
Jessica Rabbit (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?): The wife of Roger Rabbit was as sultry as any drawing could be. Rabbit was a semi-finalist last year.
Josie and the Pussycats (Josie and the Pussycats): From Riverdale, they went to outer space and back again and are two-time Finalists.
Johnny Karate (Parks and Recreation): The lead singer of MouseRat, Andy Dwyer had an alter-ego as Johnny Karate, a singer for children in the Pawnee, Indiana area. This is his first appearance as a Semi-Finalist.
Leather Tuscadero (Happy Days): Do the Fonzie! This is the first Semi-Finalist appearance for the Milwaukee based rocker from the late 1950s.
Marvin Berry and the Starlighters (Back to the Future): This was the band that played at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance in 1955. Marty McFly played with them for one song. They were a Finalist twice.
Nick Rivers (Top Secret!): Rivers was a teen idol and a war spy. This is quite the unique combination, right? This is the second time for Rivers as a Semi-Finalist.
Phoebe Buffay (Friends): Buffay is a one-time Finalist and a regular at Central Perk in New York City.
Pink (The Wall): Pink was one of the biggest rock stars in fictional rock history, and made it to the Semi-Finals for the first time.
Randy Watson (Coming to America): With his band, Sexual Chocolate, he was a part of the Black Awareness Event in Queens, New York. He is a former three-time Semi-Finalist.
Ricky Ricardo (I Love Lucy): He never le Lucy make it to the club but he was a superstar Cuban bandleader. Ricardo is also a one-time Finalist.
Robbie Hart (The Wedding Singer): Hart was an aspiring singer/songwriter from Richfield. He was a Semi-Finalist once before.
Rod Torfulson’s Armada Featuring Herman Menderchuk (The Kids in the Hall): We never saw this band get past the garage, but they become a Semi-Finalist for the first time.
Rowlf the Dog (The Muppets): Could the piano playing dog join Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem in the Hall? Rowlf was a Finalist before.
Sex Bob-Omb (Scott Pilgrim VS The World: Sex Bob-Omb is a two-time Finalist who competed in the Toronto International Battle of the Bands. They are two-time Finalists.
Sing Street (Sing Street): What do you do when you tell a girl you are in a band to impress her? You create one to make it true. This is a first time Semi-Finalist.
Steel Dragon (Rock Star): Loosely based on Judas Priest, Steel Dragon changed lead singers when a superfan and cover singer takes over. This is their first time as a Semi-Finalist.
Strange Fruit (Still Crazy): First Time Semi-Finalist, Strange Fruit reunited in 1997, 20 years after lightning struck the stage during their set at the Wisbech Rock Festival.
The Archies (The Archies): In 1970, they had a number 1 hit in the “Real World” with “Sugar Sugar”. They have been Finalists three times before.
The Banana Splits (The Banana Splits): Half live action, half animation, but all cheese! The Banana Splits captured the imagination of kids in the late 60s, and they are two-time Finalists.
The Be Sharps (The Simpsons): Former Grammy winners, the Be-Sharps were on top of the world for a brief period of time. Comprised of Homer, Barney, Apu and Principal Skinner, they are three-time Finalists.
The Bugaloos (The Bugaloos): From the Tranquility Forest, the Bugaloos were either a children’s show or an acid trip. They are two-time Finalists.
The Commitments (The Commitments): Dublin, Ireland produced one of the greatest soul groups ever, and they have been a Finalist once before.
The Folksmen (A Mighty Wind): The Folksmen were a semi-successful folk group of the 1960s who reunited for a folk festival. This is their first appearance in the Semi-Finals.
The Max Rebo Band (Return of the Jedi): What do all evil Hutts need? A house band! Max Rebo and his crew are two-time Semi-Finalists.
The Rutles (All You Need is Cash): Finalists on two other occasions, The Rutles remind of us another group called the Beatles. In the fictional musical universe, there are few that have been as successful.
The Schmenge Brothers (SCTV & The Last Polka): The polka playing brothers came from Leutonia to become successful musicians in North America. This is the first time that they are Semi-Finalists.
The School of Rock (The School of Rock): Dewey Finn pretended to be a substitute teacher and used his class as a band to perform at the Battle of the Bands. How did he not get in more trouble? This is their third time as a Semi-Finalist.
The Soggy Bottom Boys (O Brother Where Art Thou?): From the 1930s, three convicts on the run cut a record demo that became a hit. This is their fourth time as Semi-Finalists, and they were a Finalist twice.
Vince Everett (Jailhouse Rock): Vince was in jail. He sang a lot. He is a second time Semi-Finalist.
