The 2026 NFL season is here, and we have updated our Pre-Season Football Monitor.

As we have expanded our projects, we can’t say we've expanded the team behind the scenes!  As a result, we are a little behind on this one, and we could only post the top 50 of the Pre-Season Monitor at this time.

We will add more during the season (and yes, we know that defeats the purpose of pre-season), but thank you for your patience.

We have unveiled the Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Wide Receivers, Tight Ends, and Offensive Linemen.  Now we have Defensive Linemen/Linebackers/Pass Rushers/EDGE.

Note that we will separate this group next year into pure pass rushers and disruptors. We hoped to do that this year, but our work on the United States Athletic Hall of Fame took over our time!

As you will see, the 12 in this category should be split into two groups in the future.

Yes, we know that this is taking a while!

As many of you know, we at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the top 50 of each major North American sports team. That being said, we maintain and update our existing Top 50 lists annually.  As such, we are delighted to present our post-2024 revision of our top 50 Kansas City Chiefs.

As for all of our top 50 players in football, we look at the following: 

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the National Football League.

3.  Playoff accomplishments.

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles that are not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, the Chiefs had another outstanding campaign, going 15-2 with a combination of elite skill and incredible luck.  The squad marched to their third consecutive Super Bowl, but could not win the third straight, as Philadelphia easily dispatched them.  There was a pair of elevations with a new entrant.

As always, we present our top five, which saw a change.

4. Patrick Mahomes
5. Bobby Bell

Of note, Travis Kelce remains at #7.

Last year, Kansas City did it all again, winning their second straight Super Bowl and fourth overall.  Despite this, there were no new entrants but two very significant elevations.

As always, we present our top five, which saw a new number five:

4. Bobby Bell
5. Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes moves into the top five and is poised to become the greatest Chief of all time.  If you go by Super Bowls, he is already there, and we understand if you think he should be #1 right now. 

Defensive Tackle Chris Jones, who secured his fifth Pro Bowl and Second First Team All-Pro jumped from #31 to #19.

Notably, Tight End Travis Kelce, who may have earned his ninth Pro Bowl, could not move up this loaded list.  He is still ranked at #7.

Last year, Kansas City won their third Super Bowl and advanced in the overall hierarchy of the greatest NFL franchises of all-time. We saw three distinct rank elevations due to the powerful 2023 campaign.

As always, we present our top five, which did not change.

Tight End, Travis Kelce, exploded from #13 to #6.

Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, who is now a two-time MVP, also rocketed up the ranking. He went to #8 from #19.

Defensive Tackle, Chris Jones, advanced nine spots to #31.

Selected in the second round (37th overall) out of Mississippi State in the 2016 NFL Draft, Chris Jones entered the league as a raw, physically imposing interior defensive lineman. It did not take long for his rare combination of explosive power, 6-foot-6 frame, and relentless closing speed to translate onto the professional gridiron. By his second season in Kansas City, Jones established himself as an elite game-wrecker along the defensive line, becoming the foundational anchor around which the franchise built its defense.

Jones rapidly elevated his play to become one of the most destructive pass rushers of his generation. His breakout 2018 campaign featured a career-high 15.5 sacks and an NFL-record streak of 11 consecutive games with at least one sack. Operating as an interior mismatch against opposing guards and centers, his ability to collapse the pocket from the inside fundamentally altered how opposing offenses had to game-plan against Kansas City.

When championship moments arrived on the largest stages, Jones repeatedly delivered signature plays. In Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers, he batted down three critical passes in the fourth quarter to spark Kansas City's dramatic fourth-quarter comeback. He remained the central pillar of Steve Spagnuolo’s defense through subsequent Super Bowl title runs (LVII and LVIII), generating constant pressure at crucial junctures and cementing his reputation as a big-game performer.

That sustained excellence carried directly into the 2025 campaign, where Jones started all 17 games as the focal point of double-teams across the league. He posted another stellar year, recording 7.0 sacks, 29 combined tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 25 quarterback hits while helping propel Kansas City into another postseason run. His work along the front four earned him his seventh consecutive Pro Bowl selection, confirming his continued standing among the game's top interior defenders.

Heading into the 2026 season, Jones is an active legend in Arrowhead Kingdom. Signed to a long-term extension, the 32-year-old defensive tackle is the defense's leader with three Super Bowl rings and a path to Canton. He aims to further climb the organization's all-time defensive leaderboards.  Going into this year, he has 87.5 sacks, 339 combined tackles (222 solo, 117 assists), 99 tackles for loss, 39 pass deflections, and 13 forced fumbles.

When you think of the recent success of the Kansas City Chiefs, you immediately think of Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the offense, but you have to stop the ball, and in the 2020s, very few can do it at the level of Chris Jones.

Versatile, consistent, and quick like a cat, Jones does it all.  The defensive stud of Kansas City’s five Super Bowl appearances, Jones combines the power of a pass rusher and the speed of a run-blocker to make a perfect defensive beast.  Pundits agree Jones had a three-year streak of First Team All-Pro Selections (2022-24) and is on a seven-year Pro Bowl streak.  The scary thing for opposing offenses is that Jones is still at his peak.

Would KC have won their last three Super Bowls without Jones?  Not a chance.
