It did not get a lot of attention but Kevin Martin quietly retired from playing professional basketball this week.  He made the announcement in a paid advertisement in his local newspaper, the Zanesville Times Recorder.

Out of Western Carolina, Martin was chosen 26th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2004 Draft.  In his third season, Martin was the full time Shooting Guard for Sacramento and had a very healthy 20.2 Points Per Game Average.  The year following, Martin would increase his average to 23.7 PPG, and finished 6th Overall, the highest he would ever finish and he was considered the leader of the Kings.  Saying that, there was only so far he could take them and in a rebuilding process he was dealt to the Houston Rockets.

In the 144 Games he played with Houston, Martin posted a 21.3 PPG and remained a feared scorer in the National Basketball Association and would lead the NBA in Free Throws in the 2010-11 Season.  He would however again to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the surprise deal that famously saw James Harden traded to the Rockets.

Harden would finish his career with the Thunder, the Minnesota Timberwolves and finally the San Antonio Spurs last season.

Martin will be eligible for the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021, though is likely to enter our Notinhalloffame.com list.

We here at Notinhalloffame.com would like to congratulate Kevin Martin on a wonderful career and wish him the best on his post NBA career.

We generally don’t pay that much attention to the Grammy Hall of Fame, but we have always found it fascinating which songs they feel worthy to enter their Hall.

This year, the 2017 class will include 25 recordings that they feel are historically and culturally significant enough to merit induction.

They are:

Arlo Guthrie - "The City of New Orleans"

The Beach Boys - "I Get Around"

Billie Holiday - Lady Sings the Blues

Blind Willie McTell - "Statesboro Blues"

Bonnie Raitt - "I Can't Make Your Love Me"

Cab Calloway And His Orchestra - "(Hep-Hep!) The Jumpin' Jive"

David Bowie - "Changes"

Deep Purple - "Smoke of the Water"

Dion - "The Wanderer"

Elvis Presley - "Jailhouse Rock"

The Everly Brothers - "Wake Up Little Susie"

Jackson 5 - "ABC"

Lalo Schifrin - "Mission Impossible"

Lesley Gore - "You Don't Own Me"

Louis Armstrong And His Orchestra - "When the Saints Go Marching In"

Merle Haggard - Okie From Muskogee

Mills Brothers - "You Always Hurt the One You Love"

Mississippi John Hurt - "Stack O'Lee Blues"

N.W.A - Straight Outta Compton

Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Prince - Sign 'O' the Times

R.E.M. - "Losing My Religion"

Rod Stewart - "Maggie May"

Sly & The Family Stone - "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)"

Sonny & Cher - "I Got You Babe"

Pretty diverse group of songs wouldn’t you say?
