Bodhi

Bodhi
Here is another curious entry on the ballot. Bodhi (Patrick Swayze) was the leader of a surfer/criminal organization, and the sport of surfing was a vital part of the film. Still, the competitive aspect of the sport was not present in Point Break which may taint the chance of anyone from this film entering the Hall. We will say this though; watching Bodhi surf that final wave into an impending end is one of the better cinematic ends to a character on the ballot.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Point Break (1991)

Actor:
Patrick Swayze

Why you should vote for him:
Did anyone look the part of a surfer more than Swayze?

Why you should not vote for him:
The sport was showcased, but not in competition.

Keith Anderson

Keith Anderson
Here is another one we had to be reminded about. Good Times was a groundbreaking television show in the 1970’s before it degenerated to the Jimmie Walker show, which may have made it funnier, but left it without it essence. That commentary aside, when the initial lead characters (John Amos and Esther Rolle) left the show, new characters were brought in, including a man for Thelma, an NFL Running Back named Keith Anderson.

So that should have been the ticket out of the ghetto right? No, he wrecked his knee by being accidentally tripped up Jimmie “Dynamite” Walker. Basically, Kid Dynamite did what NFL Defenses couldn’t. Think about that for a second would you? No wonder John Amos left that show.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Good Times (1978-1979)

Actor:
Ben Powers

Position Portrayed:
Running Back

Played for:
Chicago Bears

Why you should vote for him:
Well his knee did miraculously heal earning him another pro contract. Maybe they did have deer antler spray in the late 70’s.

Why you should not vote for him:
Like we said, J.J. took him down?

We are going to loosely apologize on this one. Nobody here at notinhalloffame.com ever saw the show, Hang Time and when we tried to watch it we never got past a minute. However, this program lasted six seasons on the NBC Saturday morning schedule….so somebody watched this dreck.

Okay, with one minute of viewing and only internet research, here is what we do know. Beyond the title character (who we are nominating here) the show revolved countless actors, of which we have only heard of one (Anthony Anderson), had multiple NBA guest stars and had former two time NBA All Star, Reggie Theus as the Head Coach before he was replaced by Dick Butkus. Dick Butkus?????

We can’t tell you if the basketball looked real, or if the show even showed any hoops at all, but we can tell you that one episode had special guest stars Kobe Bryant and Dustin Diamond: AKA: Screech from Saved by the Bell. Screech meets the Black Mamba?   We’ll pass.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Hang Time (1995-2000)

Actor:
Daniela Deutscher

Position Portrayed:
We have no idea

Played for:
Deering H.S.

Why you should vote for her:
Maybe you find her hot?

Why you should not vote for her:
Like we said, we found the show unwatchable. We can’t be the only ones.

Jason Street

Jason Street
As the Notre Dame bound Quarterback star for the Dillon Panthers, while watching the premiere episode you naturally thought this was not just the star of the team, but the star of the show; as is this not the rule of all Football cinema?   So when we received the curve ball to Jason Street with his career ending injury in the opening game, we knew that we did not just have a Football show, but a character driven program that just happens to have a gridiron backdrop. The question is do we reward his potential, his coaching or his wheelchair rugby playing? Or, are you like most people and did not watch this show at all?
