Clarence Walker

Clarence Walker
What do you mean Stuart Sutcliffe wasn’t the 5th Beatle? On Saturday Night Live we learned that Clarence Walker (Eddie Murphy) played saxophone for the Beatles (or so he claimed) in 1963 before being kicked out. We are suckers for everything that Murphy did on SNL (though not for anything he did in a fat suit), so we felt we had no choice but to nominate him for this.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Saturday Night Live (1984)

Actor:
Eddie Murphy

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for him:
Everything Eddie touched on that show was funny; this was no exception.

Why you should not vote for him:
The sketch was a one note appearance. Now how de nominated Mr. Robinson?

Clarence Hilliard

Clarence Hilliard
From one of the ultimate cult films, “The World’s Greatest Sinner” we have a young man named Clarence Gilliard who realizes that Rock and Roll is power. He becomes a superstar and uses his new found fame to become a political icon and religious cult leader. It should be mentioned that this was the first film scored by Frank Zappa. This is one of those times when they say that a movie is ahead of its time; it is not an exaggeration.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
The World’s Greatest Sinner (1962)

Actor:
Timothy Carey

Songs you might remember:
The World’s Greatest Sinner (1962)

Why you should vote for him:
Scorsese loved it. It is easy to see why.

Why you should not vote for him:
Zappa himself hated it. That is easy to see why too.

Citizen Dick

Citizen Dick
In a ballot that is filled with fascinating candidates, this could be the most intriguing of them all. The case for Citizen Dick from the Cameron Crowe’s grunge scored film, Singles is strong. First off, the band members (except for Matt Dillon) were musical gods, Pearl Jam, which for many is enough to induct them right there. Second they were big in Belgium!

The case against them is actually strong too; namely we never really saw much of them as an actual band and in the decent soundtrack from the movie, nothing was attributed to Citizen Dick. We know that we say that we are looking forward to how the votes will shake out on many of the acts on our ballot, but damn, we REALLY want to see comments on this one.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Singles (1992)

Actors:
Matt Dillon (Cliff Poncier)
Eddie Vedder
Stone Gossard
Jeff Ament

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for them:
They were huge in Belgium!

Why you should not vote for them:
We did not see much of them in regards to their music.

Circus Monkey

Circus Monkey
From the rarely viewed 1996 independent film, Bandwagon, we have a band that just wanted to “make it”. We see their trials and tribulations in this decent film, but they are here as the music created for the film (which like the film, was rarely heard) is actually decent. That alone earned them a spot on the ballot.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Bandwagon (1996)

Actors:
Lee Holmes (Tony Ridge, Guitar & Vocals)
Matthew Hennessey (Charlie Flagg, Drummer)
Kevin Corrigan (Wynn Knapp)
Steve Parlavecchio (Eric Ellwood)

Songs you might remember:
We are actually assuming nobody remembers anything from this film.

Why you should vote for them:
Musically, this was decent.

Why you should not vote for them:
What are the odds that you saw this?
