The Cross Fires

Cross Fires The
From the underappreciated concept album (The Turtles present the Battle of the Bands) by the Turtles we have an albums where different “bands” appeared. This allowed the group to not only stretch their skills musically, as each “band” had a completely different sound and also showcase their humor.

As the “Cross Fires” the Turtles were able to tap into the surf sound that dominated the airwaves a few years previous. Like everything else on this album, the band created a fun song, though what would you expect from a band called the Turtles covering one of the most infectious musical genres ever?

The Bullet Points:
Album Appeared:
The Turtles present the Battle of the Bands (1968)

Actors/Performers:
The Turtles

Songs you might remember:
Surfer Dan

Why you should vote for them:
This wasn’t bad.

Why you should not vote for them:
We aren’t sure ourselves if the Turtles billing themselves under another name for one song only should even count.

Crosby Stills Nash Young Gifted and Black
The Rutles famed manager, Leggy Mountbatten managed a band that had four names you might be familiar with. Originally the “Machismo Brothers”, they were renamed to cater to the emerging feminist movement to Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Gifted and Black and recorded one album together and were known for their matching plaid jackets. Somehow, we think that Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young did just fine without Gifted and Black.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
All You Need is Cash (1978)

The Fictitious Band:
David Crosby
Stephen Stills
Graham Nash
Neil Young
Mike Gifted
Frank Black

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for them:
The Rutles and Neil Young; how can you resist?

Why you should not vote for them:
This was barely seen in the movie.

Creation

Creation
Musically, the audio output of Creation stunk. We were treated to only one disjointed attempt at Sunshine of Your Love, which calling it even an attempt is being generous. However, look at this stellar lineup?

You have Seth Rogen as the lead singer, James Franco on guitar, Jason Segal on drums and the goalie from the Mighty Ducks is on bass. Even the groupies rocked with Busy Phillips and Linda Cardellini. Visually, this was a Mount Rushmore of awesome, but as the band was just so bad, how much chance do they have? We can’t wait to see the votes on this one.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Freaks and Geeks (1999)

Actors:
James Franco (Daniel Desario, Guitar)
Seth Rogen (Ken Miller, Singer)
Jason Segal (Nick Andopolis, Drums)
Shaun Weiss (Sean, Bass)

Songs you might remember:
Sunshine of Your Love

Why you should vote for them:
The lineup does not get much better than this.

Why you should not vote for them:
The band was really bad.

Crazy Frog

Crazy Frog
If you have seen our Worst Songs of All Time, you would see what we really think of Crazy Frog, an Internet meme that went places that we wish never could take place. We have stated a lot of what we think on our Worst Songs list so repeating our opinion here doesn’t need to be done again, however we have to respect the fact that this generated a #50 Hit in the United States, and went to number one in many other countries. Maybe this is a legitimate candidate for the Hall!

The Bullet Points:
Album Appeared:
Crazy Hits (2005)

Performers:
Multiple

Songs you might remember:
Axel F.

Why you should vote for it:
Whether we like it or not, this was a success.

Why you should not vote for it:
This was an abomination in the world of music.
