Eight Mile Road

Eight Mile Road
First off, we wonder how many people clicked here, expecting to find Eminem here.

“Eight Mile Road” was the spoken word band in the respected film, Gridlock’d. Composed of a very good cast (Tupac Shakur, Thandie Newton & Tim Roth), the film did not catch on, as perhaps watching struggling heroin addicts is not the best way to spend two hours. Musically, the trio was not bad in the bits we saw, but we wonder just how many people saw this at all.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Gridlock’d (1997)

Actors:
Tupac Shakur (Ezekiel “Spoon” Whitmore, Bass & Backup Vocals)
Tim Roth (Alexander “Stretch” Rawland, Piano)
Thandie Newton (Barbara “Cookie” Cook, Vocals)

Songs you might remember:
Life is a Traffic Jam

Why you should vote for them:
Overall, they were not bad.

Why you should not vote for them:
Many did not view this, and all three had numerous roles worth remembering more.

Eddie Winslow

Eddie Winslow
At no point during the 1990’s did we ever figure out the phenomenon of Steve Urkel, and decades later we are even more confused. On his show, Family Matters, we had forgotten that Eddie Winslow could sing, and probably because the only thing that everyone remembers is that damned Urkel. Amazingly, in going through the research it turned out he wasn’t half bad, but again this was the Urkel show so it isn’t like anyone remembered.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Family Matters (1989-97)

Actor:
Darius McCrary

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for him:
He was not a bad singer.

Why you should not vote for him:
Urkel. That is the only reason you need.

Eddie and the Cruisers

Eddie and the Cruisers
Here is a great nominee. With the music of John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Eddie and the Cruisers may have been Bruce Springsteen light, but it was part of a cult film that was really about the music. Considering this Hall of Fame is about the music, why not induct a fictitious band that wanted the music to matter! That makes it more of a legit nominee than 99 percent of the others on the ballot. We will also argue that Michael Pare lip-synched better than anyone else we have ever seen!

The Bullet Points:
Movies Appeared:
Eddie and the Cruisers (1983)
Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives (1989)

Actors:
Michael Pare (Eddie Wilson)
Tom Berenger (Frank Ridgeway)
Matthew Lawrence (Sal Amato)
Helen Schneider (Joanne Carlino)
David Wilson (Kenny Hopkins)
Michael Antunes (Wendell Newton)
Bernie Coulson (Rick Diesel)
Anthony Sherwood (Hilton Overstreet)

Songs you might remember:
On The Darkside

Why you should vote for them:
Seriously, there is something special about this band.

Why you should not vote for them:
Their music would not have fit in the time frame.

Echo Echo

Echo Echo
In the IFC show, Portlandia, the Indy Superstar band, Echo Echo tries to check into the Deuce Hotel, but the usual clichés that you might have expected to occur were not present. What was of note to us was the incredible lineup in the Alternative Rock world that made up Echo Echo, of Corin Tucker (bandmate of Portlandia co-creator, Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney), James Mercer (The Shins) and Colin Meloy (The Decemberists). Now how can a band made up of these people have trouble checking into a hotel?

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Portlandia (2011)

Actors:
Corin Tucker
James Mercer
Colin Meloy

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for them:
In theory, this is an All Star group.

Why you should not vote for them:
Yes…an All Star group that didn’t play anything.
