Downtown

Downtown
Many Boy Bands are essentially lame but in the straight to video Disney effort, Pop Star, Aaron Carter takes it to a new level. He plays J.D. McQueen who is one of the members of Downtown, and he has to go to school…or something…hell we don’t know. We do know that Leif Garrett shows up as a janitor, which is interesting for nostalgic purposes, but in watching this, we remembered why we wanted Aaron Carter would just go away. As it turned out, he eventually did!

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Pop Star (2005)

Actor:
Aaron Carter…and we don’t know who else.

Songs you might remember:
We don’t remember any.

Why you should vote for them:
You probably shouldn’t.

Why you should not vote for them:
If the best we can say is a Leif Cassidy cameo that says it all.

Dorothy Vallens

Dorothy Vallens
A torch singer (who might as well been called a “tortured” singer), Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini) was steamy, sexy, and troubled in David Lynch’s “Blue Velvet”. She sang the signature song in the film, and did a decent job at it.

The Doodlebops

Doodlebops The
You will have to forgive us, as we have never really seen this show as nobody amongst us has small kids. Still, here is what we have learned: The Doodlebops had a decent run on Canadian Television, got picked up by Disney and are successful enough to do a tour of their music. That makes them a viable in our eyes regardless of whether we know them or not.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
The Doodlebops (2004-)

Actor:
Lisa Lennox (Deedele Doodle)
Chad McNamara (Rooney Doodle)
Jonathan Wexler (Moe Doodle)

Songs you might remember:
Get on the Bus

Why you should vote for them:
Any fictitious group that can have a successful tour is worth a look.

Why you should not vote for them:
Children’s music seems inappropriate for the Hall.

Don "No Soul" Simmons

Don No Soul Simmons
In one of the more memorable sketches from the 1987 film, “Amazon Women on the Moon” David Alan Grier was Don “No Soul” Simmons who turned his disability of being a Black without Soul into a successful white bread recording career. Simmons would take “white” songs and well…make them even whiter as he took tunes like “Tie a Yellow Ribbon” to even new lows.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Amazon Women on the Moon (1987)

Actor:
David Alan Grier

Songs you might remember:
Tie a Yellow Ribbon
Blame it on the Bossanova

Why you should vote for him:
We don’t have very many people with “disabilities” on this list.

Why you should not vote for him:
This wasn’t seen very much, and Grier seemed to play a lot of this type of character.
