Pat Benatar

Is it possible to be important to look like a Rock Star than to actually sing like one? With Pat Benatar, there was no question that she looked like a Rocker, and her early 80’s music was certainly Rock as well. We wondered aloud though, if she didn’t have the look she did, would we know who she was today?

Pat Benatar oozed a brand of tough sexuality. Benatar did not even sing Rock music until her early twenties; but when she did, she brought to Rock a classically trained voice and a uniquely sexy look. Everything about her screamed “Rock Star”. Anyone around in the early 80’s certainly remembers the legions of imitators who copied her appearance. Although her series of hits dried up by the end of the 80’s she was still able to inspire legions of women to enter the world of Rock and Roll. She might get in, but it will likely be a long wait.

Joan Jett, but not Pat Benetar? Joan Jett had a few forgettable songs. "I Love Rock and Roll", is a rock and roll ditty and probably the only song of hers that most can name. Pat's songs...I think I've made my point.

Her hits aren't strong enough???? Her songs were always on the radio in the 80's. I'm not going to trash some others that ARE in but there is no comparison. There needs to be a criteria and if she needs a bunch of (still) fan signatures.. ..she'd get it.
R&R HoF is a joke until she's in.

She will get in, relax people, her time is coming, another year or two. We got Heart and Joan Jett out of the way, now comes Pat.

Aretha Franklin is the RRHOF but Pat Benatar isn't ? How's that possible? Aretha isn't even a rock singer and hardly ion the radar screen either. Talented certainly, but only a few of her hits are memorable. And why isn't Carole King in the RRHOF for her recording career? Or Stevie Nicks and Tina Turner as solo artists? Joni Michell is in but Caarly Simon isnt? Madonna is in but Cher and Bette Midler and Cyndi Lauper aren't ?

My biggest fear for Benatar is that she'll end up be inducted so late that she won't even be able to sing, which is what happened to the great Linda Ronstadt by the time she was finally inducted. No wonder Ronstadt refused to sttend the ceremony.

Joan Jett just got in. Nothing against Jett, saw her live, had a couple of hits and her backround with the Runaways but come on. The talent gap between Benetar and Jett is gigantic. Were talking an opera quality voice with amazing range, then throw in the attitude. Promises in the Dark, Heartbreaker , Fire and Ice, We live for Love, You Better Run, Hell is for Children, Treat Me Right, etc., etc. Multiple grammys. A kick ass guitarist. WOW.

Pat Benatar has the best vocal range ever! coming from a classically trained opra voice to great roc and roll. Hear "We Belong" then play "Heartbreake r" who in the world has that range? So many of her so called nonhits are fantastic! 19 top 40 hits, a few Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and being an overall great. For examples: no illegal drug use, family oriented, an inspiration to other women that have followed her footsteps and paying her dues in the hard music business maintaining composure of being a well rounded person. All these and more qualify her as a shoe in to The Hall of Fame. If she does not get in The Hall is just a crock! she is the best singer I have ever known, especially when one considers vocal range!

Lately, important 1970s female singers have been inducted, Donna Summer and Heart, And the woefully overlooked 1970s Queen of Rock, Linda Ronstadt. Now focus on the following artists who should have been inducted years ago - Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks solo career and Tina Turner solo career. And Carly Simon , too
