156. Bad Religion

Another important Punk band from Los Angeles, Bad Religion achieved the rare feat of selling multiple records without losing their status in the Underground scene. Always evolving, Bad Religion would always flirt with other musical styles though keep them in Hardcore Punk setting. Bad Religion could squeak into the Hall in years to come as they have a representation of Punk and Los Angeles and could potentially overtake a slot that could be earmarked for earlier L.A. bands.

Quoting Penguin Jeff:
but have a dictionary handy...some of the lyrics are extremely deep...

"Culture was the seed of proliferation
But it has gotten melded into an enharmonic whole
Consciousness has plagued us and we can not shake it
Though we think we're in control
Questions that besiege us in life
Are testament of our helplessness
'there's no vestige of a beginning,
No prospect of an end'
When we all disintegrate it will all happen again"

-- "No Control"

Maybe we could set up a cage match between Greg Graffin and Phil Alvin, two singers from LA-area bands with PhDs.

BR's Brett Gurewitz also deserves mention with Graffin. He wrote half of BR's music (Graffin the other half), produced at least a dozen bands in the studio, and is the founder and owner of Epitaph records, the largest of the indie labels of the 1990s. He's as responsible as anyone for the sales and success of The Offspring, among other bands.

This is one of the most prolific "punk&q uot; bands of all time...not to mention their lead singer, Dr. Greg Graffin has won the "Humani tarian of the Year" honor from none other than the prestigious Harvard University.. .19 studio albums, with the latest one just released December 2010...they have stood the test of time and are still phenomenal.. .but have a dictionary handy...some of the lyrics are extremely deep...
