Carole King

As you may have noticed, this list is peppered with performers who are already in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for their work in other bands. Carole King is already in the Hall, but for her work as a songwriter. Ironically, the fact that she is already in may be the very factor that prevents her from getting in as a performer.

Forming a songwriting partnership with Gerry Goffin, the pair penned numerous hits that spanned over multiple genres. Already a star within the industry, the 70’s saw King sing her own material. One of the results was Tapestry, an album that soared to the top and to this day is considered one of the most important of the Singer/Songwriter genre. Later albums would follow which would cement her status as a true star. As mentioned earlier, Carole King is in the hall for her songwriting (as she should be) and she did receive a nomination as a performer. That nomination however was twenty years ago. It would not be a surprise if the Hall feels they have paid their debt to King and should other Singer/Songwriters get in it would likely be someone else.
