gold star for USAHOF

Not in Hall of Fame News

Regular visitors to our website know that we are SLOWLY working on our Top 50 players of each major team.  The end game will eventually showcase how each team honors their former players, coaches and executives.  As such, it is news to us that the St. Louis Blues retired the number of Bob Plager last night.  A New York Ranger for the first three years of his career, Plager was traded to the expansion Blues, and was a member of the original team.  Plager would have an opportunity in St. Louis to be a starter and would be a dependable…
Generally, we don’t really talk about the retirement of NFL Punters, or Punters in general, but we do feel compelled to mention that Pat McAfee of the Indianapolis Colts has retired. McAfee, who is only 29, was a very popular player amongst the Colts fans, both for his skill and for his quirky personality.  He actually ranked third in jersey sales on the team.  He retired from the NFL to join the growing website Barstool Sports. The Punter is a former two time Pro Bowler and one time First Team All Pro Selection. While we don’t see him as a…
The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame has announced their Class of 2017, which will be headlined by former Cy Young Award winner, Roy Halladay and former MVP, Vladimir Guerrero will be entering the Hall.  Roy Halladay was a star player with the Toronto Blue Jays and was with the team for twelve seasons, culminating in a Cy Young Award in 2003.  Halladay, a potential future Baseball Hall of Famer, went 148 and 76 with a 3.43 ERA with 1,495 Strikeouts.  He was a six time All Star as a Blue Jay.  Vladimir Guerrero began his career with the Montreal Expos,…
According to the reputable pro wrestling website, Pwinsider.com, The Rock and Roll Express will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. While the team comprising Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson did not have the most prosperous runs in the then named World Wrestling Federation, the tandem is considered a revolutionary force in tag team wrestling and is still held in very high regard today. Formed in 1983 in Memphis from the mind of head booker, Jerry Lawler, The Rock and Roll Express were an instant hit in the area.  Showcasing their love of Rock and Roll and high flying…
It has been announced by the Canadian Music Hall of Fame that Sarah McLachlan will be the next inductee.  The official induction will take place at this year’s Juno Awards on April 2 in Ottawa, Ontario. McLachlan is a multi time Juno Award winner and a three time Grammy Award winner.  She has nine top ten hits in Canada and two in the United States and is the originator of the Lilith Fair Concerts that promoted women in music. While this is not of the same level of prestige of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the explosion of…
Frank Thomas has always been critical of PED users getting into the Baseball Hall of Fame.  At the recent “Sox Fest”, The Big Hurt has softened his stance on that…sort of. Ivan Rodriguez, Jeff Bagwell and Tim Raines were selected for Cooperstown this year, and Thomas is not overly thrilled with two of them anyway: “We have two great players going in (this year) and they know. It's no secret.  If they didn't do it they would be stomping and kicking on interviews, 'I didn't do it.' If you didn't, you come to the forefront, 'Let's take a lie detector…
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame still has a lot of unanswered questions, but we are learning slowly about some of the inductors for the ceremony on April 7 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  Three presenters have been announced. Neil Young will be inducting Pearl Jam, Jackson Browne will be inducting Joan Baez and Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush will be inducting Yes.  It is notable that all of these inductors are Rock and Roll Hall of Famers themselves. It is not known yet who will be inducting ELO, Nile Rodgers, Tupac Shakur and Journey. We…
As you know, we are slowly (or dare we say methodically?) working on the Top 50 for every major sports team in the big four of North American sports.  The plan after is to then look at how each team celebrates their former players/executives in terms of retired numbers/franchise halls of fame, etc.  This makes it news to us that the Seattle Mariners will retire the #11 of Edgar Martinez. This is no small honor, as the Mariners have been stingy with their retired numbers.  To date, only the league mandate #42 of Jackie Robinson and that of recently elected…
Let’s try something new here. We’ll combine a few news items that we think our noteworthy in the “Hall of Fame” world.  Let’s start with the WWE. In an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard, former ECW World Heavyweight Champion was asked if he ever saw himself in the WWE Hall of Fame in the future.  He didn’t exactly imply he wanted in, nor did he have kind words to say about the institution itself: “It’s such a fake Hall of Fame.  I’d only do it because I need the money. I don’t know if I would mother--- everyone or…
Today, the International Tennis Hall of Fame announced their latest members as they revealed their 2017 Class, which will be co-headlined by former world ranked #1 players, Andy Roddick and Kim Clijsters. American, Andy Roddick was ranked #1 in 2003.  That year, he would defeat Juan Carlos Ferrero to win the U.S. Open, which would be the biggest win of his career.  Roddick would never win another Grand Slam again, but did appear in four more finals (three Wimbledons and one U.S. Open).  He would win over 600 matches as a single. Like Roddick, Kim Klijsters would reach #1 in…
