gold star for USAHOF

Not in Hall of Fame News

On a weekend where the world of professional football is celebrating their Hall of Fame and the legends that made the sport great, one of the great ones has passed away.   It was announced today that Frank Gifford died of natural causes at the age of 84 at his home in New Haven, Connecticut.     A star at USC, Gifford was drafted in the first round by the New York Giants, the only team he would play for and one that he would suit up for fifteen seasons.  As a player, Gifford would make eight Pro Bowls, and…
Maybe you noticed, maybe you didn’t, but we had a logo change here at Notinhalloffame.com.   Since the inception of our site in 2009, our core logo has always had an image of a filmstrip with four different potential Hall of Famers from respective fields.  We have alternated from Pete Rose and Barry Bonds for baseball[1], Don Cherry for Hockey and in the past we have had Alice Cooper, Rush, Kiss (who would all get in) and now currently Deep Purple representing Rock and Roll.   The WWE, had always been represented by an iconic picture of Randy “Macho Man”…
The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that there will be two new members of their franchise’s Hall of Fame. Brian Westbrook and Maxie Baughan will enter the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame officially on October 19, the date of Philly’s home game against divisional rival, the New York Giants.  Westbrook would spend eight of his nine NFL seasons with the Eagles, where he helped the team make playoff after playoff.  He would finish with 5,995 Rushing Yards, 3,790 Receiving Yards with 66 Touchdowns as an Eagle.  This would be framed by two Pro Bowl appearances. Maxie Baughan spend the first half…

RIP: Billy Pierce

We can’t lie to you.  The passing of former Major League Baseball Pitcher, Billy Pierce, completely slipped by us and we thank regular contributor, D.K. Orlandini for alerting us to his passing on July 31 at the age of 88. Pierce would spend the majority of his eighteen year career with the Chicago White Sox, where the southpaw would make all of his seven All Star Teams and was a two time 20 Game winner.  His best season would be in 1955 where he would lead the American League in Earned Run Average, FIP, ERA+, WHIP and SO/BB.  In other…
The United States Hockey Hall of Fame has announced the next four members of their institution. The Class of 2016 will comprise: Chris Drury Drury was a former NHL Centre who scored over 600 Points and was a member of the 2001 Stanley Cup Championship Team with the Colorado Avalanche.  Drury would win the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie in 1999, the year after he would capture the Hobey Baker Award as MVP in NCAA. Internationally, he would represent the United States in three Olympics (winning two Silver Medals), the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and in three…
In between the deaths of WWE Hall of Famers, Dusty Rhodes and Roddy Piper, a former title holder in the WWE retired to little fanfare. The winner of the 2006 WWE Diva Search and former WWE Woman’s Champion and Diva’s Champion, Layla El has announced that she will be retiring from professional wrestling at the age of 38. The former England born Miami Heat cheerleader, did not make that much of a splash after debuting in the WWE, and really wasn’t focused much until she was moved to the ECW brand and was paired with Brooke and Kelly Kelly as…
Don’t you love it when the people talk and Halls of Fame listen? Roughly a week ago, the Professional Football Hall of Fame stated that Sydney Seau, the daughter of Junior Seau, the late Linebacker who was chosen for Canton on his first year of eligibility, would not be speaking when inducting her dad.  The Hall had cited a previous (and little known) rule that was instituted in 2010 where a deceased player would not have a substitute speaker accept on their behalf.  As all of you know, the perceived belief from fans and media alike was that the Hall…
The Montreal Canadians have announced that they will be closing their franchise’s Hall of Fame as of August 30 of this year. The home of the Habs, The Bell Center, is closing that portion of the facility to concentrate on renovations that “will enhance the fan experience” at the facility.  With the impending close of the Hall, the institution has announced that fans can visit it at no cost until the end of the month. The Habs will be redeploying the memorabilia around the Bell Center or will be given back to those who originally provided the items to begin…
We here at Notinhalloffame.com have another major update that we are excited to present to all of you. Recently, the Hockey Hall of Fame announced that Nicklas Lidstrom, Sergei Fedorov, Chris Pronger and Phil Housley would be the Class of 2015.  Once a Hall of Fame Class is announced, our next task is obvious….work on the next list! We here at Notinhalloffame.com have created the new list and it is a little different than it has been in years past.  What we mean by that is that for the first time ever we do not have any new entry that…

RIP: Roddy Piper

The phrase “part of my childhood died today” is thrown around so much I often wonder if the people who utter those words really mean it.  I can tell you now at this moment as I sit in an airport waiting to board a flight back home that is exactly how I feel upon learning that “Rowdy” Roddy Piper died of natural causes at the age of 61. I won’t go into a detailed biography on his career.  If you were a wrestling fan in the 1980’s like I was you know exactly who the “Hot Rod” was.  While so…
