Another huge day has happened as the Modern Baseball Era Committee has announced that Marvin Miller and Ted Simmons will be joining the Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2020.

Miller spent 17 years (1966-82) as the Executive Director of the Major League Baseball Players Association. Under his guidance, players salaries increased by more than ten times.

Simmons was an eight-time All-Star who accumulated 2,473 Hits with 248 Home Runs over a career spent with the St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves.  In his initial Hall of Fame ballot, Simmons only lasted one year where he received 3.7% of the ballot.

Missing out were Thurman Munson, Don Mattingly, Tommy John, Steve Garvey, Dale Murphy, Dave Parker, Dwight Evans and Lou Whitaker.  In our latest Notinhalloffame.com baseball list, Simmons was ranked #9.  It will be a pleasure to remove him, when we revise our list in February.

To receive induction, a candidate needed to receive 75% of the ballot.

The Modern Baseball Veterans Committee consists of:

HOF Players: George Brett, Rod Carew, Dennis Eckersley, Eddie Murray, Ozzie Smith & Robin Yount.

MLB Executives: Sandy Alderson, Dave Dombrowski, David Glass, Walt Jocketty, Doug Melvin & Terry Ryan.

Media/Historians: Bill Center, Steve Hirdt, Jack O’Connell & Tracy Ringolsby.

We here at Notinhalloffame.com would like to offer our congratulations to both Ted Simmons and the family of Marvin Miller at this time.

Yes, we know that this is taking a while!

As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  We have a new one to unveil today, that of the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers were formed in 1995, and the expansion team has done well, winning the NFC twice in 2003 and 2015.  On both occasions, Carolina failed to win the Super Bowl, but making it this far twice is the envy of a few teams in the NFL.

As for all of our top 50 players in football we look at the following:

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2. Traditional statistics and how they finished in the NFL.

3. Playoff accomplishments.

4. Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles not reflected in a stat sheet.

Remember, this is ONLY based on what a player does on that particular team and not what he accomplished elsewhere and also note that we have placed an increased importance on the first two categories.

This list is updated up until the end of the 2018 Season.

The complete list can be found here, but as always we announce our top five in this article.  They are:

1. Steve Smith

2. Cam Newton

3. Luke Kuechly

4. Julius Peppers

5. Ryan Kalil

We will continue our adjustments on our existing lists and will continue developing our new lists.

Look for or All-Time Top 50 Carolina Panthers coming next!

As always we thank you for your support.

“Sugar” Shane Mosley:  Mosley was a world champion in three different weight classes (Lightweight, Super Welterweight and Light Middleweight).  He was a former Lineal World Champion in both Welterweight and Light Middleweight and Ring Magazine would twice name him the best pound for pound boxer in the world.

Hopkins, Marquez and Mosely were all inducted in their first year of eligibility.

Two Modern Category Female Boxers were selected.

Christy Martin:  Martin is considered the first major name female boxer and the “Coal Miner’s Daughter” would have a record of 49-7-3 with 31 Knockouts.

Lucia Rijker:  From The Netherlands, Rijker was also a very successful kickboxer. As a boxer, she went undefeated with a record of 17-0 and 14 Knockouts.

The third female boxer, Barbara Buttrick, was chosen in the women’s Trailblazer Category.  From England, Buttrick competed in the 1940s and 1950s and had a record of 30-1-1.

We here at Notinhalloffame.com would like to congratulate the newest and impending inductees for the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Yes, we know that this is taking a while!

As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists out and we always consistently look to update them when we can and based on necessity.  As such, we are very happy to present the first revision of our top 50 Detroit Lions of all-time.

As for all of our top 50 players in football we look at the following:

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2. Traditional statistics and how they finished in the NFL.

3. Playoff accomplishments.

4. Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles not reflected in a stat sheet.

Remember, this is ONLY based on what a player does on that particular team and not what he accomplished elsewhere and also note that we have placed an increased importance on the first two categories, which has altered the rankings considerably.

This list is updated up until the end of the 2018 Season.

The complete list can be found herebut as always we announce our top five in this article.  They are:

1. Joe Schmidt

2. Barry Sanders

3. Bobby Layne

4. Lem Barney

5. Doak Walker

We have used a different algorithm from our initial list, and this has resulted in Lions who have long since retired being shuffled despite not having added any accomplishments.

We have since rectified that.

As always, we thank you for your support.
