1985 PRELIMINARY RESULTS:

Thank you to all who participated in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project. If you are still determining what that is, we acted like the PFHOF had its first class in January 1946.

We have completed the first 40 years thus far.

For “1985,” a Preliminary Vote with close to 100 players whose playing career ended by 1979. We are also following the structure, where players have 20 years of eligibility, and if they do not make it into the Hall, they are relegated to the Senior Pool.

Each voter was asked to select 25 names from the preliminary list, and the top 25 vote-getters were named Semi-Finalists.

A week later, the voters will be asked to select 15 names from the 25 Semi-Finalists and then choose five from the remaining 15. We will continue this process every week until we catch up to the current year.

Please note that a significant change occurred “years ago,” allowing voters to submit fewer than the allotted spots.

30 Votes took place.

This is for the “Modern Era”

21. John Tonelli
*22. Phil Kessel

25. Curtis Joseph

Look for more updates soon.

Yes, we know that this is taking a while!

As many of you know, we at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the top 50 of each major North American sports team. That being said, we maintain and update our existing Top 50 lists annually.  As such, we are delighted to present our pre-2025/26 revision of our top 50 Edmonton Oilers.

As for all of our top 50 players in hockey, we look at the following:

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the National Hockey League.

3.  Playoff accomplishments.

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles that are not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, the Oilers had another phenomenal campaign, winning the Western Conference for the second consecutive year. However, in both seasons, they lost to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals.  There were no new entrants, but there were multiple elevations.

As always, we present our top five, which saw a slight change.

1. Wayne Gretzky
2. Connor McDavid
3. Mark Messier
4. Leon Draisaitl
5. Jari Kurri

You can find the entire list here.

Connor McDavid was #2 last year, and while he did supplant Gretzky for the top spot, he is getting closer.

Leon Draisaitl, who is a former Hart Trophy winner and runner-up last year, edged up over Jari Kurri for the fourth spot.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins moved up one rung to #11.

Defenseman Darnell Nurse also climbed up one spot.  He is now ranked #14.

Another Defenseman, Evan Bouchard, advanced to #31 from #35.

We thank you for your continued support of our lists on Notinhalloffame.com.

As for all of our top 50 players in hockey, we look at the following:

3.  Playoff accomplishments.

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles that are not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, the rebuilding Red Wings again failed to make the playoffs, but the Original Six team could cause some damage this year.  There were no new entrants and only one elevation.

As always, we present our top five, which remain unchanged.

1. Gordie Howe
2. Nicklas Lidstrom
3. Steve Yzerman
4. Terry Sawchuk
5. Ted Lindsay

You can find the entire list here.

The only change on the list is Dylan Larkin, who moved up two spots to #29.

We thank you for your continued support of our lists on Notinhalloffame.com.
