As we look over our list we are a little overwhelmed with the amount of bands that flew the Punk label. Of course when looking at the Stranglers we are not sure what genre they were officially labeled as they seem to effortlessly shift between many musical styles.
Considered by some to be the most successful band to wear the Glam Rock label, a further look at The Sweet would see a band that went through different style changes and were precursors to genres that would come after.
As you may have noticed, this list is peppered with performers who are already in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for their work in other bands. Carole King is already in the Hall, but for her work as a songwriter. Ironically, the fact that she is already in may be the very factor that prevents her from getting in as a performer.
Many a music fan has debated whether Rap music should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This is a debate that is not going to go away anytime soon. As such, we expect that much of the comments here will be about Rap’s credentials to the Hall. For those who do not dispute the genre’s Hall resume, the pioneers of Speed Rap may have a claim for induction.
