There are many themes on this list, and it is time to again explore that of British bands that achieve critical acclaim and commercial success in Europe but not so much in the United States. Considering that Echo & the Bunnymen drew a bit from the Doors, it could be considered a little puzzling that they did not become bigger in North America.
There is a common belief that the Rock and Roll Hall has a predisposition towards Punk Rock bands. There may be some validity to that but what of Post Punk? With this thought, we explore Magazine, a band that some critics have stated really defined the Post Punk movement.
Just because you are not known in the annals of Billboard Magazine does not mean that you are not well known to the world of musicians. Should an informal poll of successful musicians as to which band has the most respect the Meters would be a serious contender to top that list.
Generally, if you help define a Rock genre, it would be expected that you would have a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio receive credit for being the top Rockabilly bands, but they received much of that credit long after they recorded.
