Dogs in Space

Dogs in Soace
We will admit that we have little reason to think that Dogs in Space will enter the Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We also will admit that they are only here because INXS front man, Michael Hutchence was in it. The skinny is that this is a 1987 Australian film set in the 1978 Melbourne “Little Band Scene” and Hutchence plays the lead singer of the band, although the fans of the music receive equal time in this flick.

The Bullet Points:
Movies Appeared:
Dogs in Space (1987)

Actors:
Michael Hutchence (Sam)
Nique Needles (Tim)

Songs you might remember:
Unless you are Australian, there are not any.

Why you should vote for them:
The music was decent, though again regional relatively speaking.

Why you should not vote for them:
Does a movie that had zero traction in North America deserve a place here?

Dogs

Dogs
We only saw this once, and in our eyes this is one of the great “what ifs” of Saturday Night Live. We have always wondered if the Adam Sandler led “Dogs” which appeared in the final sketch in the Tom Arnold hosted show of the eighteenth season, could have been like a Blues Brothers and have a much greater life, or was it only meant to be a one note joke? Perhaps there was something about a Grunge band with a Dog motif that appealed to us, or maybe it was the potential of this great group of comedians that made us think it. Who knows, but as we did our research we learned two things…that not many remember them, and those who did wanted more.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Saturday Night Live (1993)

Actors:
Adam Sandler (Lead Singer)
Dana Carvey (Drums)
Mike Myers (Guitar)
Rob Schneider (Guitar)
Robert Smigel (Guitar)

Songs you might remember:
Bad

Why you should vote for him them:
This is one hell of a lineup of comedians…and they could play.

Why you should not vote for them:
Based on our research, this sketch does not even come close to the top 200 most memorable bits on SNL.

Doc Jenkins

Doc Jenkins
Based on his own life, “Songwriter” is the story of Doc Jenkins, a Country music star who battles for control of his own music. Nelson never strays from his range, and as such never fails and though this movie never found an audience, it is an underrated effort worth a look.

DJay

You would not think that Pimp/Dealer looking for a Rap career would be a solid candidate, but we think it should be. That was the plot in “Hustle & Flow” which starred Terrance Howard as the aspiring Rapper. It was a complex and deep role, which at its core was about a man trying to make a better life for himself, and the film was done so well that you don’t need to be a Hip Hop fan to relate. Howard was nominated for an Oscar, and the signature song from the movie “It’s Hard Out There For A Pimp” won the Oscar for Best Song. This makes this a very good choice in our eyes.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Hustle & Flow (2005)

Actor:
Terrance Howard

Songs you might remember:
It’s Hard Out There for a Pimp

Why you should vote for him:
Great acting and a Oscar winning song.

Why you should not vote for him:
Many people say that Rap should not be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; what will they say here?
