The Sapphires

Sapphires The
From the great nation of Australia, we have a nice film about an All-Aboriginal female singing group who went to Vietnam to entertain the troops. It is very loosely based on a real life group and the film is equal parts drama and comedy; though a little cliché ridden. Still, for non-Australians who may not be familiar with it, it is work a look.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
The Sapphires (2012)

Actors:
Deborah Mailman (Gail McCrae)
Jessica Mauboy (Julie McCrae)
Shari Shebbens (Kay McCrae)
Miranda Tapsell (Cynthia McCrae)

Songs you might remember:
Multiple covers, which were relevant to the era.

Why you should vote for them:
This was a decent film and was about music.

Why you should not vote for them:
Outside of Australia, does anyone know what this film is?

Samurai Apocalypse

Samurai Apocalypse
Played by former Wu-Tang Member and musical genius, RZA, Samurai Apocalypse had a brief storyline arc on Californication, where he was a Gangsta Rap mogul who hired Hank Moody to pen some lyrics. Moody could write, but if you have seen this show you already know what Hank did with Samurai’s love interest.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Californication (2011)

Actor:
RZA

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for him:
Our best argument is that this is the RZA, and that is enough alone.

Why you should not vote for him:
There was little music from this character, just a lot of use with a gun.

In the chick-flick, Just Friends, Anna Faris a self absorbed Pop princess who plays an antagonistic role in the movie. The film wasn’t special but some did like Faris’ performance in the movie and did offer a few laughs.

Sally Kendoo

Sally Kendoo
American Dreamz tried to be a decent parody of reality television, and specifically American Idol, but it did not exactly hit the mark. That was not the fault of Mandy Moore who did an admirable job as the fame hungry, Sally Kendoo who enters the competition for shallow reasons. Moore can at least sing the part, which gives her a pass somewhat; and as she didn’t write the part, she gets a pass the rest of the way. Now, was she cute enough to get into this Hall despite the bad material? Probably not.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
American Dreamz (2006)

Actor:
Mandy Moore

Songs you might remember:
Mommy, Don’t Drink Me to Bed Tonight

Why you should vote for her:
Moore can sing at least.

Why you should not vote for her:
This was a poor movie at best.
