Schroeder

Schroeder
Another that we had to really think about of he qualifies, Schroeder was a Beethoven loving piano player who we saw mostly face deep tickling the ivories (that sounded bad). He was never a central figure of the Peanuts comic strip or the TV specials, and he always seemed to play the same song.   Still, every Christmas and Halloween you can count on that song playing on television.

The Bullet Points:
TV Specials Appeared:
Multiple

Actors:
Multiple Voices

Songs you might remember:
That same song that they always play.

Why you should vote for him:
He debuted in 1951 and is still very well known today.

Why you should not vote for him:
He is a Beethoven enthusiast; not exactly a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame resume is it?

The School of Rock

School of Rock The
After Dewey Finn (Jack Black) was thrown out of his band, No Vacancy, and in dire need of money, he adopted the persona of his roommate and took a job as a substitute teacher where upon learning that his kids could play music, he ditched the curriculum and set out to create his own Rock Band to defeat No Vacancy at the Battle of the Bands. In the hands of anyone other than Jack Black, this film would have probably been a disaster, but this would be a film that was equal funny as it was sweet and should be a serious Hall contender.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
School of Rock (2003)

Actors:
Jack Black (Dewey Finn, Lead Singer, Guitar)
Joey Gaydos Jr. (Zack Mooneyham, Lead Guitar)
Kevin Clark (Freddy Jones, Drums)
Rebecca Brown (Katie, Bass)
Robert Tsai (Lawrence, Keyboards)
Maryam Hassan (Tomika, Second Voice)
Caitlin Hale (Marta, Backup Singer)
Aleisha Allen (Alicia, Backup Singer)

Songs you might remember:
School of Rock

Why you should vote for them:
This band was actually very good.

Why you should not vote for them:
There is something about voting for a bunch of kids that seems a bit off.

The Schmenge Brothers

Schmenge Brothers The
We are not sure that a polka act really belongs in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (even if it is fictitious) but when it comes from SCTV, we have to give it a strong look. The Schmenge Brothers (John Candy and Eugene Levy) came from Leutonia and became stars on the Polka circuit in North America, especially Melonville!   They would appear in multiple sketches and had an HBO Movie spoofing the Scorsese film about “The Band”, with “The Last Polka”. We know this isn’t Rock, but this seems like a solid candidate to us.

The Bullet Points:
TV Shows Appeared:
SCTV (1982-84)
The Last Polka (1985)

Actors:
John Candy (Yosh Schmenge, Clarinet)
Eugene Levy (Stan Schmenge, Accordion)

Songs you might remember:
Cabbage Rolls and Coffee Polka

Why you should vote for them:
An HBO film (even if it was in 1985) helps their cause a lot.

Why you should not vote for them:
As mentioned, this is a Polka act.

Sausalito

SausalitoFrom Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation, we have a hotel lounge act that caterwauled “Scarborough Fair” badly. They weren’t featured much in the film, but we remember them mostly for Bill Murray bedding the lead singer in a one night stand. We wish we didn’t have to hear her sing “Midnight at the Oasis” in the shower though.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Lost in Translation (2003)

Actors:
Catharine Lambert (Singer)
Francois Du Bois (Piano)
Tim Leffman (Guitar)

Songs you might remember:
Scarborough Fair

Why you should vote for them:
This was an excellent film.

Why you should not vote for them:
It was a throwaway part.
