28. Don Perkins

You don’t usually talk about personal services contracts, but that is how Don Perkins was signed by Dallas…providing they got an NFL team.  They did, and the NFL allowed it, as the Cowboys had to send a compensatory 9th Round Pick to the Baltimore Colts who chosen him that year.

Perkins missed the entire 1960 season due to a broken foot, but he was a star in 1961, winning the Rookie of the Year Award with a 1,113 Yards from Scrimmage year and a Pro Bowl Selection.  He was a First Team All-Pro the year after, again with a 1,000 pus YFS year.  Perkins played his entire career with the Cowboys, and would go to four more Pro Bowls, and would have 7,527 Yards From Scrimmage.  It is definitely worth mentioning that he was also an extraordinary blocker.

Perkins earned a place in the Cowboys Ring of Honor in 1976.
