Provost compares with Duff, Pulford, Olmstead, Carbonneau and Gainey. 1 of 5 one thousand games with Montreal, 1968 Masterton award, 3 twenty goal seasons, 15 seasons with same team, over 250 goals, 126 playoff games, bobby hull checker, NINE, count them 9 Stanley Cups.

It's a travesty that Claude Provost is not in the Hall of Fame. One of the great checking forwards of his generation, and a reliable scorer as well. He brought many of the same things to the great '50s & '60s Habs powerhouses that Bob Gainey did to the '70s clubs. An absolute stalwart who could play up & down the line-up & on the PK unit. The Habs won the Vezina Trophy 9 times during his career, & he deserves some of the credit for that.

The best defensive forward during his time. Shut down his opponents without taking penalties. He has great offensive stats for a player who was primarily a defensive forward. With 9 Stanley Cups and the first recipient of the Bill Masterton Trophy, he is a Hall of Fame player.

Oh come now. Provost made all those All-Star Games not on merit, but because in the Original Six era the Cup champions played in that game. He had a couple good seasons, no error, but it’s already the case that a THIRD of the NHL regulars in the mid-60s are in the HHOF. Selfless players are a dime a dozen, but the HHOF *should* be for the greatest players in the game. Provost wasn’t one of them.
