gold star for USAHOF

3. Buck Williams

3. Buck Williams

In terms of duration, Buck Williams is the top of the Nets food chain as he is the franchise leader in Games Played, Minutes Played and is also the leader in Rebounds and is second all-time in Points.  This isn’t a bad way to start discussing Buck Williams and his time with the New Jersey Nets.

Out of the University of Maryland, Williams was the third overall Draft Pick in 1981 and he proved to be an excellent selection as he was named the Rookie of the Year and went to the All-Star Game.  Williams immediately established himself in the upper echelon of NBA Power Forwards and he also proved to be an excellent rebounder.  In that rookie season, he was third in Rebounds per Game with 12.3, a number he would increase slightly to 12.5 in the 1982/83 campaign where he was again an All Star but would also be named to the Second Team All-NBA roster.  A Net for eight of his NBA seasons, Williams averaged 12 or more boards over the first six of them and he finished second or third in that vital statistic.  Williams was not a one trick player as he could also score, showcased by his 16.4 PPG in New Jersey.

The Nets retired his number 52 in 1999.
