The 10th overall pick in 1996, Chavez debuted for Oakland in 1998, and by 2000, he was a fixture at the hot corner for the team. Offensively, Chavez would display good power numbers from 200 to 2006. He never had less than 22 Home Runs and had at least two years where he exceeded 30. Four of those seasons, the Third Baseman was a member of the 100 RBI club. Chavez never hit .300, but he a four-year run of Slugging Percentage (2001-04) of .500 or higher. He would win the 2002 Silver Slugger.
Defensively, Chavez won the Gold Glove six years in a row (2001-06). He led all American League Third Basemen in Range Factor per Game three years in a row (2002-04) and would twice finish first amongst his peers in Fielding Percentage.
After 2006, his play would decline, but he stayed with Oakland until he signed with the New York Yankees as a Free Agent in 2011.
As an Athletic, Chavez had 1,276 Hits and 230 Home Runs.
