83. X

Regardless of the genre, Southern California is a hotbed for musical inspiration. Punk is no exception, as our next selection is the region’s undisputed king of their early Punk scene, X.

X became darlings of the critics in the early 80’s and they had one of the most revered live shows in music. Unlike other Punk bands, they flirted with incorporating a Country Bluegrass feel on their early albums that certainly gave them a more unique sound than their peers. Still together and putting on great live shows to this day, they are cited as an important influence to the Punk bands that followed and dare we say Alternative Country that would emerge later. As Punk is considered a respected genre by the Hall, they have a much better shot than at first glance; however they will likely have to wait for their Proto Punk predecessors to get in first.
