Not in Hall of Fame News

...and you should not be surprised.  From the beginning of the trial, Roger Clemens legal team methodically picked apart the evidence against the multi time Cy Young Award winner and those closely following the trial knew where the decision was likely to go. With all of this said, Clemens remains guilty of PED use in the court of public opinion and an informal poll on the street would likely paint Clemens as a PED user.  His acquittal won't change this.  Along with Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa, Clemens enters the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time under a…
LaDainian Tomlinson will be rejoining the San Diego Chargers with the exclusive reasoning of retiring as a member of the team he achieved his greatest success in.  He will be retiring with what we consider Hall of Fame credentials and a potential first ballot entry. With an MVP award (2006), five Pro Bowls, 13,684 career Rushong Yards, and 162 total Touchdowns, the former Purdue Boilermaker is retiring in the top five of many key career offensive categories.  Considered one of the good guys on oand off the field, we can't imagine that he won't be ranked in our top three when…
Dana White and Tito Ortiz are far from the best of friends, but this has not stopped the latter from being named as the eight inductee to the UFC Hall of Fame.   Ortiz is the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and is the current record holder for the most fights under the UFC banner.  It is expected that he will be inducted on July 6th, the day before he has his final fight at UFC 148 against longtime rival Forrest Griffin. With this news, we wonder if it is time to start ranking UFC as a Notinhalloffame category.  Any thoughts on…
We here at notinhalloffame.com would like to officially congratulate the newest class of inductees to the International Boxing Hall of Fame.   This year's class is headlined by Thomas "Hit Man" Hearns who held championships in various weight classes and whose clash with Marvin Hagler is still considered legendary.   Hearns is joined by Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson who was a star in the Flyweight division and was the first African American to win a major championship in that weight class.  Broadcaster Al Bernstein was also named as was trainer, Freddie Roach and writer, Michael Katz.  Perhaps the widest known in this…
Although we don't have any current plans to create a TNA "Notinhalloffame" section, we would like to congratulate Sting as being the first inductee to the TNA Hall of Fame.  As we have mentioned before, we do no know how this will progress, but with the possible exception of Jeff Jarrett, Sting is a good choice to kick off their Hall.

RIP: Bob Welch

The World of Rock and Roll has anothe casualty as former Fleetwood Mac guitarist and 70's Solo star, Bob Welch passed away today at the age of 66 to a self inflicted gun shot to the chest.  Welch was with Fleetwood Mac in the "transition years" of 1971 to 1974 and was not part of the bands mainstream explosion in 1975.  Welch did however have success on his own with the release of "French Kiss" which yielded the hits "Ebony Eyes and "Sentimental Lady".Welch was snubbed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as he was not part of…
We have another major retirement in the world of sports and it comes to us again from Detroit.  Although Magglio Ordonez will not be a sure Hall of Famer like Nicklas Lidstrom was (who retired from the Red Wings earlier in the week), he will appear on the ballot and does have a career to be proud of.The native Venezuelan retires with 2,156 Hits, 294 Home Runs and a career .309 Batting Average.  With Six All Star Appearances, Ordonez was a solid contributor in the middle of both White Sox and Tiger lineups for years.  He is unlikely to get…
The owner of TNA Wrestling, Dixie Carter, has announced that they will be beginning their own Hall of Fame.  As the WWE Hall of Fame is a fairly significant part of our website, we are frankly a little curious as to how we should react. The first inductee will be announced on June 10th, on their next Pay Per View titled "Slammivarsary" to be held in Arlington, Texas.  The WWE Hall of Fame has proven to be a moneymaker for the organization, and many wrestlers consider it to be an honor to be placed in that institution.  In fact, Ric Flair, who…
...and he is a sure fire Hall of Fame entry and virtually guaranteed to be in our top three when he is eligible.  How can he not be when you look at this resume?Four Stanley CupsOne Olympic Gold MedalTwelve All Star AppearancesSeven Norris Trophy WinsOne Conn Smythe WinAns this just the highlights!  The Swedish born Lidstrom played his entire NHL career for the Detroit Red Wings and they sure got their money's worth.  His career stat line shows 1,142 career points and a plus/minus of 450.   He will eligible for the Hockey Hll of Fame in three years, and we…
And it was not an easy decision.  "The Macho Man" Randy Savage passed away last year, and often when these deaths happen a renewed look at their legacies will take place.  With a perfect voting record from all of you, and the belief that Savage's ascension took place at the WWE's greatest heights, it was believed that for this year, he would be placed over Bruno Sammartino who slipped to a close number 2.This was not the only change on the list as many moved from "Future Candidates" to the regular list.  The highest debut came from the current executive,…
