RIP: Bill Sharman

Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee, Bill Sharman passed away today at the age of 87. Last week, he suffered a stroke, and died at his home in California. Sharman played the bulk of his career with the Boston Celtics, where the Shooting Guard would help the team win four NBA Championships. Sharman was an eight time All-Star and was named the First Team NBA All-Star team four consecutive seasons. He would also become a successful NBA Coach and would be lead the Lakers to an NBA Championship. He is in the Basketball Hall of Fame twice. The first time was…
The Cleveland Cavaliers have announced that on March 8, 2014, that the number 11 of former Center, Zydrunas Ilgauskas will be retired. “Z” played twelve seasons with Cleveland and is the franchise leader in blocks. Twice he was named to the All-Star team (2003 & 2005) and was a consistent leader in the NBA in Offensive Rebounds, leading the league in that category in 2005. Although he was never considered the best at his position, he was in that elite category. During his time in a Cavaliers uniform, Ilgauskas became one of the most popular players. He becomes the seventh…
The man they called “snowshoes” for his plodding skating style may have been harmlessly mocked, but across the National Hockey League, Allan Stanley was celebrated as a winner and an excellent defensive specialist. Stanley passed away at the age of 87 and on four occasions in the 1960’s was a big part of four Stanley Cups with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He entered the league in 1948 and though he had played for the New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins prior to becoming a Leaf, it was in Toronto while in his 30’s that he became a star.…
We were starting to think that we were the only ones who thought that Don Cherry should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Legendary Defenceman (and depending on who you ask, the greatest Hockey player of all time) Bobby Orr has stated that he believes that the star of Coach’s Corner on CBC should be inducted as revealed in his autobiography. An entire chapter was dedicated to his former coach in Boston and Orr has stated in a recent interview that “his importance is as great as any player past, present or future.” He goes on to ask if…
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced their nominees for the next Class, and as always, we expect that it will raise many eyebrows and cause countless debate across musical landscape. We are taking a look at the sixteen nominees in order of the rank on our Notinhalloffame.com rankings. Nirvana: NIHOF Rank #1 For those wondering if they were in fact eligible (and the Chairman was openly one of those people) this was answered. The Grunge superstars should be considered a lock for the Hall on their first ballot. Deep Purple: NIHOF Rank #2 Look…
About six months ago, we asked someone close to us if they would be interested in doing a Notinhalloffame.com section in regards to the World Golf Hall of Fame. His answer was that it would not be very interesting as the Hall inducts “everybody”. Apparently, they have agreed. The Florida based institution has announced that they are cancelling the 2014 Hall of Fame process and have announced that they will look at overhauling the process. Currently, there are five categories in which you can be inducted; The PGA Tour/Champions Tour, LPGA Tour, International, Lifetime Achievement and Veterans. On the PGA…
The Songwriters Hall of Fame may not have a section here at Notinhalloffame.com, but it is an institution that we have respected for a long time. The nominees for their next class have been announced, and we are sure that it may raise a few eyebrows. The biggest name of the group is Madonna. The “Material Girl” (can we still call her that now that she is well North of 50) might be the most successful of the nominees, but rarely has she been praised for song writing. This is not to say her writing is subpar, but can you remember…
We here at Notinhalloffame.com are very excited to announce that we are a few weeks away from unveiling a brand new section that we feel will combine our love of Sports and Pop Culture perfectly. Our goal here at our website, has always been to shed a bit of insight on some of the omissions in the most important Halls of Fame in North America, and as the only website that combines a look at post career institutions of Rock of Roll, Baseball, Football, Hockey, Basketball, NASCAR and the WWE. Receiving this tribute is considered to be a stamp of…
We have not mentioned it here at Notinhalloffame.com but the Football Hall of Fame Seniors’ Committee nominated two men who hold a strong ranking on our Football rank. Punter, Ray Guy and Defensive End, Claude Humphrey have been selected as the two Senior Nominees. Unlike the last few years, both Guy and Humphrey shined brightest in the 1970’s, whereas past Senior’s nominees were from either the 50’s and/or 60’s. This isn’t the first time that Humphrey has appeared as a nominee. In 2009, he was on the ballot with Bob Hayes, who was selected. Humphrey was a dominating force for…
The Steel Curtain lost one today. Former Pittsburgh Steelers, Defensive End, L.C. Greenwood passed away due to kidney failure at the age of 67. The popular defender was part of four Super Bowl wins and was named to the 1970’s All-Decade Team. Continued accolades include six Pro Bowl Selections and two First Team All-Pro teams. Greenwood is currently not in the Football Hall of Fame, though he was a Finalist twice. He is ranked #8 on our Notinhalloffame.com Football List, and is considered an omission by Canton not just by us, but by many football fans and writers. We offer…
