Not in Hall of Fame News

The largest soccer website in the world, Goal.com, is unleashing the first five men of their fan voted Hall of Fame.  Every day this week, the international web juggernaut will announce one of the men who will enter what we think will be a very respected Hall of Fame.  The first one chosen was former French superstar, Zinedene Zidane. Zidane was born in Marseille, France to Algerian immigrants in 1972 where he grew up poor.  Quickly showing skill for the game, he was scouted by Cannes and was signed by them and would make his professional debut for the team…
Tonight will be a special night for Guy Lapointe, the former Defenceman of the Montreal Canadians and current Scout for the Minnesota Wild.  At the Bell Center in Montreal, where the Canadians are hosting the Wild, Lapointe’s #5 will be officially hung to the rafters and retired. The number 5 has already been retired, when in 2006, Bernie “Boom Boom” Geoffrion saw that number retired in his honor, and this is not out of the ordinary in Montreal as the numbers 12 and 16 have also been retired twice; the 12 for both Dickie Moore and Yvon Cournoyer and the…
As we have mentioned before, we don’t have future plans to do a Notinhalloffame list for the Toy Hall of Fame, we can’t help but be intrigued by what they are doing and the memories they constantly invoke in us.  Today they have announced the three new toys that will be part of the Toy Hall of Fame and represent the Class of 2015.   The Rubik’s Cube, Bubbles, and Little Green Army Men have been named as the new toys that will be honored at the Hall of Fame. The 80’s fad of the Rubik’s Cube has been a finalist…
It was announced today that seven time All Star Alfonso Soriano has officially retired from Major League Baseball.  The 38 year old Dominican born player spent sixteen seasons in the Majors, predominantly with the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs. Soriano had a rough start to his professional career, electing to begin in Japan with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, only playing nine games and seeking an out to his distaste of the Japanese style of discipline and play.  After legal red tape was cut through, he would sign as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees, where in…
In 2010, the Black College Hall of Fame first came into fruition, honoring College Football players who plied their craft at historically Black Colleges in the United States.  Today, they have announced the class of 2015, which we thought it would be fun to take a look at. Richard Dent, Tennessee State: 1979-82.  The Defensive Tackle helped the Tigers get to the Division 1AA Semi Finals.  He would be a member of the 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bow Championship Team and enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.  Roger Brown, East Maryland Shore: 1956-59.  The Defensive Tackle would…

As such we are ready to present the former players who are eligible for Canton in 2017.  The players chosen have at least had one Pro Bowl appearance or an All Pro Selection. Recently, the National Baseball Hall of Fame announced this year’s Golden Era Ballot.  The Golden Era Committee replaced the Veteran’s Committee in 2010 and specifically looks at the players/contributors from 1947 to 1972.  This vote takes place every three years, and 75 percent is required of the 16 members to earn induction.  In 2011, the first year instituted, the late Ron Santo was chosen. We are going to take a quick look at the ten men chosen for the ballot, and list them in order of rank on our website: Gil Hodges, Ranked #15.  Received as high as 60.1 %…
When you think of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the National Football League franchise with the most Super Bowl Championships, you would almost automatically think that they would have the most, or close to the most retired numbers in the NFL.  The reality is that they are not even close. Prior to this weekend, the only number retired was the number 70 of Ernie Stautner, which took place in 1964.  This was not to say that the Steelers did not take care of their past stars, and they removed multiple numbers from their circulation, but this Sunday marks the first time that…
We told all of you that we here at Notinhalloffame.com would be uploading futures to the Football section, the same way we have done in Baseball, Basketball, Hockey and the WWE.  The first three have been updated this past month, and we are pleased to announce that we finally have a section for future players eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The players chosen for your consideration are those who have at least made one Pro Bowl or received one All Pro Selection. The following are former NFL players who will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall…

RIP: Bob Geigel

It was announced yesterday that former wrestler and promoter, Bob Geigel passed away due to Alzheimer’s Disease.  He was 90 years old. Geigel attended the University serving his country in World War II.  A natural athlete, Geigel excelled in amateur wrestling, so much so that he placed third in the NCAA National Championship.  His size and acumen made him a natural to join the professional ranks and before long he was competing in Missouri and Amarillo. It was in Kansas City, where Geigel would call home and have his greatest success.  He would win numerous NWA championships, but the bulk…
