Not in Hall of Fame News

When a Hall of Famer sounds off about their respective Hall and those hoping to get inducted, it is always news to us. Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, Frank Robinson spoke on “Outside the Lines”, the popular ESPN program which was documenting the 40th Anniversary of Robinson becoming the first African-American Manager in the history of Major League Baseball.  When asked about his former teammate, Pete Rose and the Baseball Hall of Fame, Robinson did not sugar coat his opinion: “Nothing.  Lifetime ban means lifetime.  Pete Rose broke a sacred rule in baseball by gambling on baseball and gambling on…
Normally, we would not report on the ramblings of Eddie Vedder during a concert.  I think if we did, we would have to dedicate an entire section to what the half talent/half blowhard front man of Pearl Jam would be spouting, but we thought this was a little interesting. In a concert at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, in between his anti-war speeches to the audience, he talked about another great injustice in the world, that of the omission of Pete Rose from the Baseball Hall of Fame: “It may not be as important as stopping a war or…
We told you we would be quicker.  Last week we put up the Baseball players who will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2017.  We now have put up those who are eligible in 2018. Like 2017, the new crop of eligible players is an interesting group and again for reference to qualify for the Baseball Hall of Fame, a player has to have been in the Majors for at least ten seasons and been retired for five. The eligible players for 2018 are as follows: Adam Kennedy Andruw Jones Aubrey Huff Ben Sheets Brad Lidge Brad Penny…
It did not get a lot of publicity, but the Milwaukee Brewers have announced that they will be retiring the number 1 in honor of Bud Selig, the Commissioner of Major League Baseball. Selig may not be the most popular Commissioner in North American Sports history (though Roger Goodell is making him look awfully good these days), but this is not in the same vein as what the San Diego Padres did by renaming their Hall of Fame park after the soon to be retired Commissioner.  Selig was at one point a minority owner of the Milwaukee Braves, and when…
Amidst the hoopla (which is warranted by the way) of Derek Jeter’s impending retirement, a pretty good slugger in Chicago is about to call it a career as well.  Chicago White Sox First Baseman, Paul Konerko will end his career this weekend after spending sixteen of his eighteen seasons in the Windy City.  Konerko was known primarily for his power, as he belted 439 Home Runs in his career, potent numbers by any standards.  He also eclipsed the 2,000 Hit mark, has a more than respectable Career Slash Line of .279/.354/.487 and represent the White Sox in six All Star…
Unless you have been hiding in a cave (and even then you probably know) this is Derek Jeter’s final weekend in the Major Leagues.  A thousand articles have been written extolling the virtues of Jeter, who by every account (even in Boston) should be a lock to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame on the first ballot, which incidentally would be in 2020.  So what is it that we could possibly write that hasn’t been written before? The answer is nothing, so let’s recap a few things that again, you probably already know. We have read that Cooperstown may expect…
The Toy Hall of Fame may never be one that we will focus on with a Notinhalloffame list, but it is one that we pay attention to whenever they make an announcement.  The Hall, which is located in Rochester, New York, announced their twelve Finalists for their Class of 2014, two of which will be selected on November 6th. The twelve finalists are certainly diverse and will evoke many childhood memories from differing generations.  The finalists are: American Girl Dolls Bubbles Fisher-Price Little People Hess Gas Station Toy Trucks Little Green Army Men My Little Pony Operation Paper AirplanesPots and…
We will be unveiling in the near future a look at each North American sports franchise and they handle retired numbers, franchise Halls of Fame etc.  Admittedly, this will not include that of the Canadian Football League, but this was a retired number we could not ignore commenting on. On October 13, the Montreal Alouettes will retire the number 13 of Anthony Calvillo at their next home game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  This has been a poorly kept secret, as this had long been suspected, though has only been confirmed today.  Calvillo is the holder of every major passing record…
Although the Pro Football Hall of Fame has become one of the most respected Halls in the sporting world, the first step, the announcement of the one hundred plus Preliminary nominees rarely gets much attention.  With the vast amount of men listed, it is impossible to come up with snubs, and is not the snubbing what brings about debate in the first place? This is the first step to crowning the next class of Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees, and as such one that we want to take a closer look at.Here is the complete list of the 113 Preliminary…
We have not been as quick as we would like here at Notinhalloffame.com in regards to updating our futures list.  We can assure you that there is a lot in the pipeline that will allow you to cast your opinion on future players who will be eligible for their respective Halls of Fame. As such, we have finally updated a section in our Baseball Futures, and have put up the 22 players who will be eligible for the Cooperstown in 2017.  As the case with almost every year, we have players who should be strongly considered, a few who will…
