RIP: Frank Ramsey

It was announced today that Frank Ramsey, a member of both the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and College Basketball Hall of Fame died today of natural causes. He was 86 years old. Ramsey played collegiately for the University of Kentucky where he was a National Champion in 1951 under the legendary Adolph Rupp. Drafted 5th overall in 1953 by the Boston Celtics, Ramsey would be part of a juggernaut team that would win seven NBA Championships (1957, 1959-64) and many basketball pundits dubbed him as the “Original Sixth Man”. He would average 13.6 Points per Game in the NBA…
Last night the UFC held their Hall of Fame ceremony and while we don’t (yet) rank those who should be inducted, we always pay attention to what that Hall does. As the UFC announced each of the inductees we discussed it here, but let’s go over the UFC Class of 2018. The undisputed headliner was Ronda Rousey, who without question changed the sport forever and was the first female Mixed Martial Artist to be a bona fide headliner. Rousey’s success transcended the sport and she appeared on multiple shows including a guest hosting gig on Saturday Night Live. She was…
The saga of Terrell Owens and his Pro Football Hall of Fame continued today as the former Wide Receiver announce on Twitter that he will be giving his acceptance speech at his alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He had this to say: “As many of you know, I am forgoing the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Canton. After giving it much thought, I have realized just how much I want to celebrate what will inevitably the best weekend of my life at a place that means so much to me. I have decided to…
He didn’t say the word retirement, but in a post on his Twitter account it sure seems like that is what Seattle Seahawk Safety Kam Chancellor announced. This is what he had to say: “I always prayed to God and told myself that I would play this game of football until the wheels fall off. Well the wheels didn’t fall off, but God has given me a sign that I just can’t ignore. I’ve played through all types of bruises and injuries at a high level. But this one, I just can’t ignore. When the doctors told me what was…
We have a significant (though not celebrated) retirement in Baseball as Jayson Werth has decided to end his comeback and call it a career. It was a simple statement that he made with Fancred Sports: “I’m done…whatever you want to call it”. In the last off-season Werth signed with the Seattle Mariners but never made it to the big league team playing for Tacoma in AAA. Werth debuted in 2002 with the Toronto Blue Jays where he played for two seasons in a reserve role, eventually moving to Los Angeles where as a Dodger he showed promise. In 2006, a…
We here at Notinhalloffame.com have always been huge advocates of Don Cherry gaining induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame, though we have to give the bombastic hockey analyst credit, as he doesn’t promote himself for the Toronto based institution. That doesn’t mean that he isn’t vocal about whom he thinks should be inducted, and who shouldn’t have been. Cherry’s wrath was directed towards former Red Army player, Alexander Yakushev who surprisingly was chosen. He had this to say:  "I am really upset at Yakushev. Absolutely ridiculous that he's in and Henderson's not. What he did in Russia over there,…
We expected that there would be a bit of backlash in regards to the Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2018 towards the selection of current NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, and sure enough it happened. Former players, Daniel Carcillo and Nick Boynton took to Twitter to vent their frustration towards the announcement: "I can't get over what a slap in the face this must be to the families of Steve Montador, Rick Rypien, Derek Boogaard, Bob Probert & Wade Belak, Gary Bettman had a hand in every death by withholding info about the risks of doing their job." The five…
This is one of the days that we look forward to every year at Notinhalloffame.com as the Hockey Hall of Fame has announced the Class of 2018. This year’s class includes two former NHL players (Martin Brodeur and Martin St. Louis), a former women’s player (Jayna Hefford), a former Soviet player (Alexander Yakushev) and two builders (Willie O’Ree and Gary Bettman). Let’s take a deeper look at this year’s class. The current NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman was chosen. This will not be a very popular choice especially in Canada, where it is perceived that he has an anti-Canadian bias. Since…
As always, we here at Notinhalloffame.com continue to update our existing lists. As we slowly put together our Top 50 all-time players for every major team we constantly continue to update our existing ones. For the second time, we are updating the first franchise 50 we ever posted, the Washington Nationals. Since the last time we revised our Washington Nationals two things have changed. The first is that since our last revision in two and a half years ago, we have relaxed the dependence on advanced statistic and put a higher reward on individual seasons. We think this allows for…

RIP: Vader

It is another sad day in the world of Professional Wrestling as Leon White “Vader” passed away due to congestive heart failure at the age of 63. White got into professional wrestling after a brief career in the National Football League where he most notably appeared for the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. A patella injury forced him out of the game but like so many football players at the time he moved to the world of professional wrestling. Trained by Brad Rheingans, White would be given the name of “Baby Bull” Leon White, which would later morph…
