The Defensive End signed a one day contact with the Indianapolis Colts so he could retire with the team where he had his greatest success. The New England Patriots have announced the three Finalists for their Hall of Fame and all three of them were members of the organization’s first three Super Bowls. Matt Light is a first time nominee. The former Left Tackle played 153 Games in the NFL and started all of them in a career that was spent only in New England (2001-11). Following the death of Bruno Sammartino another significant former professional wrestler also passed away as Paul Jones died at the age of 75. Jones began his career in 1961 and competed in various promotions across the United States but by decade’s end he would find a somewhat permanent home in the Carolina working for Mid-Atlantic predominantly in tag teams. It was reported today that Bruno Sammartino passed away today at age 82. While the cause is not yet known it was disclosed that the professional wrestling legend had been battling serious illness over that past few months. From Abruzzo, Italy, Sammartino’s family hid from Nazi soldiers during the latter part of World War II and the family would move to the United States in 1950. We have another major update here at Notinhalloffame.com as our Football list of those who should be considered for the Pro Football Hall of Fame has gone through a major revision. Last February, 6 of our top 10 were selected (Ray Lewis #1, Jerry Kramer #2, Randy Moss #3, Brian Dawkins #7, Terrell Owens #8 and Brian Urlacher #9) as was another top 15 (Robert Brazile #15). Another day, another retirement in professional football. Nick Mangold, who arguably is one of the most successful Offensive Linemen in New York Jet history has officially retired from the NFL after signing a one day contract so that he could retire in the green and white. For the second time, Linebacker James Harrison has announced his retirement via an Instagram post from professional football though we think this time it is going to stick. It was great sadness that we learned that Basketball Hall of Famer Hal Greer passed away. He was 81 years old. From Huntington, West Virginia, Greer made history as the first African American to play for Marshall, which was also made him the first black collegiate basketball player in the state of West Virginia. Greer would dominate for the Thundering Herd and would named First Team All-MAC in 1958. He would then be drafted 13th overall by the Syracuse Nationals that year. We have another significant retirement in the National Football League as Buffalo Bills Guard Richie Incognito announced his retirement from the game due to health issues. He had indicated last season that he might play one more season but after meeting with his doctor he elected not to continue. The University of Nebraska Athletic Hall of Fame has announced their seven member class for their Class of 2018 which will consist of five former student athletes and two very well known coaches. The class consists of: Darin Erstad: Baseball 1993-95 & Football 1994.
