Another animated attempt to capitalize on the Bubblegum genre, the Cattanooga Cats were…well a little different than the others. Perhaps it was the subtle psychedelic feel the music had (even though it was Country based), or maybe that is what we were on when we watched it. Actually, that was probably it. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Cattanooga Cats (1969-71) Actors: Bill Callaway (Country, Lead Singer and Guitarist) Julie Bennett (Kitty Jo, Singer and Dancer) Jim Begg (Scoots, Bass) Casey Kasem (Groove, Drums) Songs you might remember: Surprisingly…none Why you should vote for them: This was considered a cult hit. If so, there should be some fans of them out there. Why you should not vote for them: For a musical act, there is no signature song. {youtube}

Before Demi Moore’s career explodes, she was the female lead in the John Cusack vehicle where she was granted a couple of songs in the flick. Although Moore’s character is a Rock singer here, this was only a secondary part of the film and not exactly relevant to the plot line. Still, with her speaking voice (which we know, wasn’t her singing voice), how can we not include her? Damn, she has one sexy voice! The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: One Crazy Summer (1986) Actor: Demi Moore Songs you might remember: Don’t Look Back Why you should vote for her: How about because Demi Moore was super hot for a near twenty-year period? Why you should not vote for her: This was a John Cusack vehicle…not Demi Moore. {youtube}

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls may be the ultimate early 70’s guilty pleasure film because as much as it was god awful, you couldn’t turn away. The focal point of the film was the band, “The Carrie Nations”, whose music was as bleak as it was bad, but again, you couldn’t help but watch. Whether or not this makes them a serious contender is in doubt, but nostalgia is on their side. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) Actors: Dolly Read (Kelly Macnamara) Cynthia Myers (Casey Anderson) Marcia McBroom (Petronella Danforth) Songs you might remember: Come With the Gentle People Look on Up at the Bottom Sweet Talkin Candy Man Find It! Why you should vote for them: Their music was featured, and the band was the main part of the film. Why you should not vote for them: They were terrible. {youtube}

From the early 80’s cult film, “Get Crazy” we have a series of bands who played at the fictitious Saturn Theatre (modeled after the famous Filmore East) for their 15th New Year’s Eve Show. The first act to appear in the movie was Captain Cloud, played by Howard Kaylan of the Turtles. As you might have guessed from his name, the good Captain was still immersed in the late 60’s hippie culture, but as he was a personal favorite of the Saturn’s promoter, Max Wolfe, he was a part of the show and was allowed to ring in the New Year with Auld Lang Syne. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Get Crazy (1983) Actor: Howard Kaylan Songs you might remember: Auld Lang Syne Why you should vote for them: It was one of those so cheesy it was good moments. Why you should not vote for them: Musically, he was stuck in a time warp. {youtube}
