Yes, we know that this is taking a while!

As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists out and we always consistently look to update them when we can and based on necessity.  As such, we are very happy to present our post 2021/22 revision of our top Detroit Red Wings.

As for all of our top 50 players in hockey we look at the following: 

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the National Hockey League. 

3.  Playoff accomplishments.

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, the Red Wings did not make the playoffs, but this is a young team that appears to be improving.  There were no changes in our Top 50, but we do acknowledge that last season has been taken into consideration.

As always, we present our top five:

1. Gordie Howe

2. Nicklas Lidstrom

3. Steve Yzerman

4. Terry Sawchuk

5. Ted Lindsay

Notably, Team Captain, Dylan Larkin, was unable to crack the Top 50, but likely will next year if he has a similar season to 2021/22.

Baseball Hall of Fame Relief Pitcher, Bruce Sutter, passed away last night.  

Signing with the Chicago Cubs in 1971, Sutter toiled in the minors for years, until he learned the split-fingered fastball, a pitch that would propel him to greatness.  Chicago first called him up in 1976, and was the team’s closer the following year, where he made history becoming the 19^th Pitcher to throw an immaculate inning.  Sutter played for the Cubs for five seasons, and while Chicago was not particularly good during that time, Sutter was electric, leading the NL in Saves twice and representing the Cubs in the All-Star Game four times.  He also won the coveted Cy Young in 1978.

In 1981, Sutter was traded to St. Louis, a contending team, where he continued his success.  He again led the NL in Saves in 1981, 1982 and again in 1984, adding two more All-Star Games, and anchoring the Cardinals to a World Series Championship where he won the Babe Ruth Award.  

Sutter signed with Atlanta in 1985, but shoulder issues took away his dominance and he only lasted three more seasons before he retired.  The four-time Rolaids Reliever of the Year had 300 Saves when he retired, which was then third all-time.

Sutter was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2014.  His number 42 was also retired by St. Louis.

As for all of our top 50 players in hockey we look at the following: 

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the National Hockey League. 

3.  Playoff accomplishments.

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, Anaheim failed to make the playoffs, and went on a fire sale at the end of the year trading assets, including players who are ranked here.  Nevertheless, there were two new entries.

As always, we present our top five, which remained the same from last year:

1. Teemu Selanne

2. Ryan Getzlaf

3. Paul Kariya

4. Corey Perry

5. Jean-Sebastian Giguere

Getzlaf notably closed out his career in 2022, but we felt he did not quite do enough to overtake Selanne for the top spot.

12-year veteran, Defenseman, Cam Fowler went up one spot to #7.

Defenseman, Hampus Lindholm, who was traded to the Boston Bruins late last season, was unable to move past #9.

Goalie, John Gibson, edged up one spot to #12.

Forward, Rickard Rakell, who was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins last last year also held the same spot.  He is ranked at #15.  

Another Duck, Jakob Silfverberg, who is still active is still at the same rank, #17.

The same goes for Defenseman, Josh Manson, who also was unable to advance from his spot at #21 before he was traded last year to Colorado, where he won a Stanley Cup.

The first of two new entries is Center, Adam Henrique, who arrived from a trade from New Jersey in 2017.

The second entry is current top sniper, Troy Terry, who lit the lamp 37 times last season.  He debuts at #42.

Henrique and Terry knock out Nick Ritchie and Jason Marshall from the Top 50.
