If you are a regular visitor at Notinhalloffame.com, you know that we created the Notinhalloffame NHL Cup, where in every regular season game, we award points (5-4-3-2-1) to the top five performers.  This is the third year that we have done this, and Edmonton’s Connor McDavid won the first two.

To keep everyone regularly in the loop this time, we have decided to give regular updates, starting at Thanksgiving, and tell all of you the top ten.  We will be doing updates every Monday.

Here is the third current top ten in Notinhalloffame Cup Points:

1. David Pastrnak, Boston Bruins. 60 Cup Points:  29 Games, 17 G, 24 A, 41 P, +6, 5.0 PS. (#1 Last Week)

The Boston Bruins (like last year) have been the best team early in the season, and it is David Pastrnak who has led their offensive threat.  He is not currently leading the league in any category, but is fifth in Goals (17) and Points (41), and is Boston’s leading scorer, and is in the top ten in most essential scoring categories.  Could he win his first Hart?

2. Nikita Kucherov, Tampa Bay Lightning.  55 Cup Points, 31 Games, 20 G, 32 A, 52 P, -1, 5.8 PS.  (#2 Last Week)

Kucherov is in his tenth season in Tampa, and is putting forth a season that could gain him another Hart or Art Ross.  He is leading the NHL in Points (52) and is second in Points (32) and third in Goals (20).  It is a minor surprise that he is not first in Cup Points.

3 (TIE). Juuse Saros, Nashville Predators.  52 Cup Points:  24 Games, 14-10-0 Record, .912 Save Percentage, 2.71 GAA, 4.5 GPS. (#3 Last Week)

Saros is a shock to be the highest ranked Goalie and to be in third in general.  With the exception of Filip Forsberg or maybe Roman Josi, the Preds are not loaded, and Saros is able to steal points easier than most Goalies.

4. Filip Forsberg, Nashville Predators, 51 Cup Points:  31 Games, 16 G, 20 A, 36 P, +3, 4.1 PS (#4 Last Week)

Nashville is the first team with two players?  Yep, and here are the quirks of the NIHOF Cup.  Forsberg is ninth in Goals (16) and Shots (117).

5. Jack Hughes, New Jersey Devils, 49 Cup Points:  24 Games, 14 G, 23 A, 37 P, 0, 4.2 PS.  (#8 Last Week)

Hughes is currently third in Points per Game (1.54) and is on pace for a third straight All-Star selection.

6. Thatcher Demko, Vancouver Canucks.  47 Cup Points:  23 Games, 16-7-0 Record, .921 Save Percentage, 2.34 GAA, 5.1 GPS. (#10 Last Week)

Demko, who was an All-Star last year, is the current league-leader in Wins (16) and Goalie Point Shares (5.1), and is fifth in GAA (2.34) and seventh in Save Percentage (.921).

7 (TIE).  Auston Mathews, Toronto Maple Leafs, 46 Cup Points:  27 Games, 23 G, 12 A, 35 P, +4, 4.5 PS. (Not in Top Ten Last Week)

The American sniper is back in the top ten and is back atop the leadership in Goals with 23.  If he holds that, Mathews will win his third Rocket Richard Trophy.

7 (TIE).  Mikko Rantanen, Colorado Avalanche, 46 Cup Points:  31 Games, 15 G, 24 A, 39 P, +5, 4.2 PS. (Not in Top Ten Last Week)

Rantanen returns to the top ten, and it just makes sense to have somebody from Colorado here!   Currently, he is eighth in Points (39).

9. Sam Reinhart, Florida Panthers, 44 Cup Points:  30 Games, 17 G, 21 A, 38 P, +16, 5.0 PS.  (#3 Last Week)

It is a surprise to see Reinhart as the top Florida Panther, and he is on pace to have the best season of his career.  He is currently fifth in Goals (17) and eighth in Point Shares (5.0).

10 (TIE). Artemi Panarin, New York Rangers.  42 Cup Points, 29 Games, 16 G, 26 A, 42 P, -3, 4.6 PS (#6 Last Week)

The Russian veteran scored over 90 Points the last two seasons, and should be able to do so again if he maintains his current production.  He is ninth in Points (26) and sixth in Points (42).

10 (TIE). J.T. Miller, Vancouver Canucks.  42 Cup Points, 32 Games, 15 G, 30 A, 45 P, +12, 4.9 PS. (#7 Last Week)

Miller is third in Points (45), and is the league-leader in Short-Handed Goals (5).  He is also ninth in Point Shares (4.9).

Colorado’s Cale Makar and Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor fell out of the top ten.

Here is the current top ten:

1. Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets, 104 Cup Points, 26 Games, 4.00 Cup Points per Game, 27.0, PPG, 12.4 RPG, 9.5 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 32.1 PER, 5.4 WS.  Last Week, #1.

Remaining at the top is Nikola Jokic, who is now an NBA Champion and Finals MVP.  At present, the Joker is leading the NBA in Total Rebounds (323), Defensive Rebounds (236), True Shooting Percentage (.701), Win Shares (5.4), Offensive Win Shares (3.9) Box Plus/Minus (14.4) and VORP (3.6).  He is also second in Rebounds per Game (12.4), PER (32.1) and third in Assists per Game (9.5).  Jokic also was named the November Player of the Month, which is his seventh.

2 (TIE). Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks, 97 Cup Points:  25 Games, 3.89 Cup Points per Game, 31.4 PPG, 11.0 RPG, 5.0 APG, 1.4 SPG, 1.2 BPG, 29.9 PER, 4.2 WS.  Last Week, #5.

The two-time MVP has never had a better supporting cast than he does now, and he is responding by doing what he always does: dominate.  Antetokounmpo, however has slightly less metrics than previous years, but the arrival of Damian Lillard means he does not have to always carry the load.  He has moved up to third in Points per Game (29,9) and sixth in Rebounds per Game.

2 (TIE). Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers, 67 Cup Points, 22 Games, 4.07 Cup Points per Game, 34.2, PPG, 11.7 RPG, 6.0 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 34.5 PER, 5.0 WS.  Last Week #7

Embiid is the reigning MVP, NIHOF Cup Winner, and two-time scoring champion, and he is currently leading the NBA in scoring again (34.1).  The 76er is also first in Usage Percentage (36.0), and PER (34.5), and is in the top ten in Rebounds and Blocks per Game.  Embiid has missed the last few games, costing him Cup Points.

4. Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks, 94 Cup Points:  24 Games, 3.83 Cup Points per Game, 32.7 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 9.1 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.5 BPG, 27.2 PER, 3.8 WS.  Last Week #6.

Doncic is on a four-year streak of First Team All-NBA stars, and he is on pace to add a fifth.  Hs is second on Points per Game (32.7), fourth in Assists (9.1), and is in the top ten in PER (27.2), Box Plus/Minus (8.6), VORP (2.4) and Win Shares (3.8).

5. Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics, 93 Cup Points:  25 Games, 3.58 Cup Points per Game, 27.3 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 4.1 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.4 BPG, 20.9 PER, 3.1 WS.  Last Week #7.

Tatum begins the year the way he ended the last one: an MVP contender on a power team.  He has already a nabbed a Player of the Week Award, is tenth in PPG (27.1) and is poised to take the Celtics on his back to a title.

6. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder, 92 Cup Points:  23 Games, 4.00 Cup Points Per Game, 30.7 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 6.4 APG, 2.7 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 30.7 PER, 4.9 WS.  Last Week #6.

Gilgeous-Alexander broke through to the upper-tier last season, and he is proving that this was no fluke.  He is leading the NBA in Steals per Game (2.7) and is third in PER (30.7), Win Shares (4.9) and VORP (2.6) and is fourth in Points (30.7).  The Canadian is now an MVP contender, and could join Steve Nash in that exclusive club.

7. Kevin Durant, Phoenix Suns, 74 Cup Points:  88 Games, 4.00 Cup Points Per Game, 30.6 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 5.6 APG, 0.7 SPG, 1.2 BPG, 24.4 PER, 2.9 WS.  Last Week #8.

Durant remains a superstar and when he is healthy, he is among the best in the world.  KD is chasing another title and MVP with the Suns, and he is having one of his best starts in recent years.  At present, Durant is fifth in scoring (30.4) has not averaged over 30 Points per Game since the 2013/14 Season, but is over that right now.  Durant is also ninth in PER (24.4).

8. Steph Curry, Golden State Warriors, 87 Cup Points:  24 Games, 3.63 Cup Points per Game, 28.0 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 4.4 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.3 BPG, 21.5 PER, 2.7 WS. Last Week #2

The Warriors are an aging team, but Father Time has not yet found Curry, who is the best beyond-the-arc shooter of all-time.  He is seventh in PPG (28.1) and is leading the league in 3-Point Field Goals (115) and Free Throw Percentage (.934), but the pieces around him are falling apart.

9. LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers, 82 Cup Points:  24 Games, 3.42 Cup Points per Game, 25.2 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 7.0 APG, 1.5 SPG, 0.7 BPG, 25.0 PER, 3.1 WS.  #9 Last Week.

James set the all-time scoring record last year, and he continues to defy time by playing at an elite level. 

10. Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves, 75 Cup Points:  24 Games, 3.13 Cup Points per Game, 22.4 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 3.0 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.7 BPG, 20.2 PER, 3.0 WS.  (#10 Last Week)

Towns has struggled to remain healthy over past years, but that has not been an issue in 2022/23.  He is not in the top ten in any major category, but is close to many.

Nobody fell off the top ten.

Yes, we know that this is taking a while!

As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists out and we always consistently look to update them when we can and based on necessity.  As such, we are very happy to present our post 2022/23 revision of our top 50 Detroit Red Wings.

As for all of our top 50 players in hockey we look at the following:

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the National Hockey League.

3.  Playoff accomplishments.

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, Detroit failed to make the playoffs, but one player did enough to crack the top ten of this Original Six team.

As always, we present our top five, which saw no changes:

1. Gordie Howe

2. Nicklas Lidstrom

3. Steve Yzerman

4. Terry Sawchuk

5. Ted Lindsay

As for all of our top 50 players in basketball we look at the following:

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, Dallas had an excellent season, and made it to the Western Conference Final.  The year generated three new entries and multiple elevations.

As always, we present our top five, which had a new number five.:

1. Mike Modano

2. Sergei Zubov

3. Jamie Benn

4. Marty Turco

5. Tyler Seguin

Notably, Benn was unable to surpass Zubov for the #2 spot, and remains at #3.

Seguin made it to the top five, after being ranked #7 last year.

Defenseman, Miro Heiskanen, rocketed to #33 from #49. 

Another Defenseman, Esa Lindell, moved up five spots to #40.

The highest of the three debuts is Left Wing, Jason Robertson, who was a First Team All-Star last season.  He enters at #37.

Fellow Left Wing, Roope Hintz, makes his first appearance on the list at #42.

Veteran Center, Joe Pavelski, debuts at #45.
