212. Weird Al Yankovic

If you would have asked people in the 1980s when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was first formed, people would have laughed in your face if you suggested that "Weird" Al Yankovic would be a Hall of Fame possibility.  After all, Yankovic was a song parody writer, and most of his songs were about food.  Yet, year after year, he gained more and more respect from his peers, had a number one record, and is one of the most enduring figures of the 80s.

Yes, we know that this is taking a while!

As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists out and we always consistently look to update them when we can and based on necessity.  As such, we are very happy to present our post 2022/23 revision of our top 50 Cleveland Cavaliers.

As for all of our top 50 players in basketball we look at the following:

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the National Basketball Association.

3.  Playoff accomplishments.

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, Cleveland returned to the playoffs after a significant drought, and this generated some list fluctuation with two new entrants.

As always, we present our top five, which was not affected by the last season:

1. LeBron James

2. Mark Price

3. Brad Daugherty

4. Zydrunas Ilgauskas

5. Larry Nance

You can find the entire list here.

Kevin Love, who was traded during the year to Miami, was unable to rise from his #8 spot.

Jarrett Allen shot up to #22 from #35.

Another significant jump came from Darius Garland, who advanced from #49 to #36.

Donovan Mitchell, who just had the best season of his career, debuted at #40.

The second new player is Evan Mobley, who comes in at #45.

We welcome your input and comments and as always, we thank you for your support.

1951 SEMI-FINAL RESULTS:

Thank you for all of you who have participated in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project, and if you are unaware of what that is, simply, we acted as if the PFHOF had their first class in January of 1946?

We have completed the first two years, where a Preliminary, Semi-Final and Final vote for the 1946 Class, which inducted two full classes

For “1950” a Preliminary Vote with 128 players whose playing career ended by 1943. We are also following the structure in that players have 20 years of eligibility, and if they do not make it into the Hall, they are relegated to the Senior Pool.

Each voter was asked to select 25 names from the preliminary list, with the top 25 vote getters named as Semi-Finalists.

A week later, the voters were asked to pick 15 names from the 25 Semi-Finalists, and next week, they will pick five from the remaining 15. We will continue this process weekly until we catch up to the current year.

Next Saturday, we will be posting the results of the 1952 Class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project.

Thank you to all who contributed, and if you want to be a part of this project, please let us know!

Evan Mobley was the 2021 Pac-12 Player of the Year, and was grabbed by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the Third Overall Pick in the following draft.

The Power Forward was a n immediate starter, averaging 15.0 Points per Game as a rookie, and earned a First Team All-Rookie Selection.  Last season, Mobley was part of a rising Cleveland squad that added Donovan Mitchell.  Mobley increased his PPG to 16.2, and led the NFL in Defensive Win Shares (4.9).  He was also named to the All-Defensive Team.

Mobley still was good in his third season (15.7 PTS and 3.2 Steals per Game) but only played 50 Games due to knee issues, but Cleveland knew they had something special.  Last season, Mobley delivered on the promise, winning the Defensive Player of the Year Awrd, with a tenth-place MVP finish.  Mobley, who was also a Second Team All-NBA Selection, increased his offense to over 18 Points per Game.  The shine on Mobley had arrived, and with a loaded roster around him, there could be a shiny ring in his future.
